Why wasn't it backed completely by Sony? (Is it too risky?) I think people are expecting some sort of GTA style game from this. Once it had the biggest budget out there and now... -> kickstarter (I really doubt something huge will ever come out of kickstarter campaigns). |
It's a may be a way to verify there is demand but I guess giving it a spot in the E3 conference means they already know it will be successful.
Most likely it's about creating a lot more hype than there is already, and making sure a handful of people stayh hyped and hype others during what will probably be a long developpment (kickstarter funders will get involved, thus stay hyped).

FFVII remake is good, but it's only temporary exclusive. Shenmue 3 ? it's a kickstarter. They came and they won, not with actual content, but just showing us what we asked for years. Next level tactics. It feels like 2013 all over again. We got manipulated to that level where we can only be impressed at the manipulator instead of being pissed off. They had one new exclusive with horizon though. (Edit : forgot dreams and that vr thing. mea culpa. The point of the thread is the 3 gigatons above not being exclusive or new still). |
People who say these things really show they don't have much a clue in how the industry works. The kickstarter is to gauge interest. Sony is footing almost the entire bill for the game. 2 million will be less than 10% of its actual budget.

How much is 10 minutes of E3 conference worth ? Given the impact it has, it could be very pricy (2 million is a lot though lol).
Anyhow as it was in the E3 conference it probably just means sony knows there is interest in it, IMO the campaign is just good marketing. Still, the gigaton is a kickstarter campaign that was not funded, so technically not a gigaton yet. Also ps4 and pc and the conference gave very little details about the game. Saying Shenmue 3 was enough.

Exactly. Just the title and director is enough. If Eiji Aonuma announces a new Zelda, it's a megaton. That's just how it goes.

Well, at least it's based on something. If the last 2 zeldas were "meme run bad", announcing a new zelda wouldn't be a megaton anymore.
That said my point is not to say these aren't gigatons but that they aren't sony's gigatons. There are only Sony's gigatons announced them, but FFVII and Shenmue 3 could have been shown in the PC show as well, and people would have been like "Oh, it's on ps4 too ? meh"

If Valve had a press conference and announced these titles, then they would be Valve's megatons. But since Sony partnered with them (and likely is paying for the promotion and whatever exclusivity they have), they get credit for the reveals. That's just how these things work.
it doesn't matter if it is multiplat... you can't say announcing a game like kh3 two years ago isn't huge just because it's a multiplat......

Final Fantasy 7 remake will be PS4 and possibly PC. There is no mention of Xbox One. Shenmue 3 again PS4 and PC. I think Sony will actually fund it as $2 million won't cover 20 mins of the game. Sony could have had more games to show but why throw all your eggs in one basket.
Think of all the Japanese games they could have shown? Deep Down, Persona 5,Dragon Quest Heroes just to name a few. Uncharted Trilogy, GT7 and Quantic Dreams project etc
