I know, disolitude, but there are others who takt things way to far at times. Threads like these, regardless of the initial intent usually turn into bashfests in here.
Are there really that many BluRay fanboys in here?
I'm not overly fond of BluRay pricing as of yet myself, but I'm glad the whole format war thing is decided so companies can start perfecting and developing for that one format instead of dividing attention between two, costing twice the money, effort and time!

Yeah , I rememeber when a basic DVD player was over 150$ ... at least when I wanted to buy one for the first time ...

O noes, guiz! Da LG BH200 IZ DA DEBEL!
*cough.*
Anyhow, I think people moved to blu-ray too quickly. Sony was extremely smart in making the PS3 a blu-ray player, since that effectively put 10m+ BR players into homes, but I can't help but feel that HD-DVD could've still won out if supporters would have only tried harder. Like, maybe if they released a Wii HD-DVD player as well (Game disc that tells Wii to turn control over to USB add-on + USB HD-DVD player = instawork!).
It's a shame HD-DVD went so soon, because now, HD disc formats are going to kill themselves with high BR prices. Seriously, we will see adoption rates dwindle in the months to come, and with BR's successor already in the makings, that's going to hurt BR's total lifespan.

Something like this seemed appealing to me as I use a pc for my media center. But at this price it would have to be a burner as well... This technically is the cheapest bluray player... :)

I might be mistaken, but I thought that profile 1.1 added picture-in-picure and profile 2.0 enabled optional internet content. As far as I know every player should be able to watch every movie in the future. It is the extra features that may not be accessable. Can anyone confirm this? |
This is correct with the exception of one first generation Samsung player - which they're currently being sued for. Every other Blu-ray player will play all discs, it's just that some of the older players won't have access to some of the special features like PIP commentaries and internet garbage.

They are citing holiday sales prices IMMEDIATELY after xmas from the beginning of january.....and now non sale prices and claiming costs are RISING......ugh, use some common sense, people.....th eprices havent climbed at all, they are simply returning to their normal price after holiday sales. Blind hatred without knowledge is terrible....never once was the MSRP cut on player prices officially, they were packaged or dropped as sales for the holiday....never a permanant price drop. FUD at its finest. |
No, you're not the only one. I was going to write the exact same thing.
It's amazing how quick people are to latch on to something that fits their own preconceptions, even though it defies logical thought.
