Sorry but this doesn't make any sense at all. They are not holding back DLC, it just wasn't done yet when the game released. If the maps were done before release why would they hold some back just to give them away for free later?

I don't think that's an issue. What most people seem to be saying is that the game lacks content and it's only once all the free dlc lands that it's content matches a $60 game.
If that's correct, then people should have a choice. Some people see the value some don't, why not release game for $40 to match its content and $20 dlc pass. Or small price for DL. packs so the total will never go over $20.
That way people can choose how broad to make their experience.
If claims are true about the content, it's not worth $60 plain and simple no matter claims of hours of play.
Other than this splatoon hasn't done much wrong.

Your amiibo argument really doesnt change the fundamental truth: you are paying in order to have the right to to use the content in question., otherwise you would not be able to use everything on the disc you own. Other companies were chasisted for similar practices. Granted Nintendo`s Splatoon attempt (and to other degrees both STEAM and MP10) are arguably less offensive, but it does not change it for what it is. |
Except you've flat out admitted that how Splatoon is doing things is not as bad which is the whole point, the Amiibo content is merely the single player game only with parameters like use this weapon and so on, you still have access to the content Amiibo just puts a slight spin on it. Amiibo's are collectibles with incentives not DLC with a figure argue the fundamental all you like it doesn't deter that Amiibo's have support across various games and platforms.
People can claim that it's DLC you know why? Because other companies have charged for on disc content, games like MVC3 had Shuma and Jill on disc and people still had to pay, by default it's already better then such practices.
so when nintendo holds of content that is on the disk it is OK and actually a good thing? geez man.

It seems like they just really wanted a game out by summer, similar to how EA just really wants Battlefront out by November. Both have free content planned initially although I doubt StarWars's will extend into 2016... has Nintendo made any concrete statements about how long teh DLC will be free by?
I really don't get the hate for this game. Yes, they are unlocking stuff that was already on the disc. So what? They've been pretty upfront about it. My personal experience so far has been one of discovery: There's a new map every week, new weapons and soon new modes and features (which certainly are not on the disc - why would they lock away friend lobbies if it was already there?). There'll be Splatfests soon. The game has lots of gear that can be customized and is highly motivating.
And just for the record: If EA or Activision unlocked free on-disc maps or weapons after a game's release I wouldn't bitch about it, either. It's totally fine, as long as we don't have to pay for any of it. And it's not like they spread the content thin, there are constant updates and improvements. The game is already great the way it is and it was only €39.99 in Europe, by the way. If you don't own the game, stop telling people they are not supposed to like the way new content is being released. It's free. It's already on disc, but it's free.
Strangely enough, I don't see people (who don't own the game) complain about Smash Bros dlc which is quite expensive in my opinion. I have the strange feeling some (!) people just don't like the game being a success.

ohh i know man. i wasnt generalizing, i was pointing that towards the people who do.

| fedfed said: If it is free and they keep me happy and want to go back and play the game I am Ok with it. They could have just taken off the disc. and ask you to pay a pound for a map download would have that been better then? really guys. think before you speak! |
Lol. I love when people say that. "You have a different opinion, so clearly you're wrong, so think before you speak". Er, what?
Everyone was attacking Capcom and their on-disc dlc. I said the same thing: Can't they just remove the content from the disc and charge for it sperately? Why does it matter if it's on disc or not? But that was evil Capcom, so it doesn't deserve a pass. Same with games getting bashed for short campaigns and lacking content.
At any rate. I personally don't have a problem with Ninty's decisions, but I do with double standards and giving a company a free pass (or even praise it) just because it's your favourite company.
Glad to see some people being consistent, though. It's quite refreshing.
