Disgaea already came out and nobody cared.

Really?... :/

Ok then, Persona it is. xD

yeah it was really sad, but it also released the same day as Bloodborne so it was kind of doomed from the start :/ at least i will surely buy it when it comes out on the west later this year, so they at least have my 60 dollars.

Yeah, congrats. Great achievement.

I'd also like to use this opportunity to congratulate Nintendo because the Wii U did better than the Atari Jaguar.

LMAO!!! *Applauds*

Uh...Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem? Star Fox? Yoshi? Mario Maker? Devil's Third? And that's not counting potential announcements at E3 like Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Pokken Fighters or a new 3D Mario...

None of them are bigger system seller than X

How would you know? Also i see Splatoon as a bigger system seller than XCX. XCX had GW and a Bundle. Splatoon sold out and brought Sales 150% up WoW

Splatoon had a huge marketing and because of it's settings, it's made to sell a lot to childrens ( and even with that huge marketing, Wii U didnt even reach 20k), the only game that could sell as much as X in your list is SMTxFe , if it's released this year

Duh Splatoon had huge marketing. Are you trying to say that no other Wii U game will ever get a big marketing campaign in the future? Its demographic is irrelevant.

Xenoblade has sold a total of 107k in Japan right now. I can guarantee you that Yoshi, Mario Maker, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Super Mario Galaxy 3 and Pokken Fighters would sell significantly more (in addition to SMTxFE).

Now now, I disagree with Aerys, but demographic is relevant. Splatoon catered to the shooters and a Nintendo fanbase that don't own the system.

Sure, with a marketing campaign Yoshi and Mario Maker could sell well, but those won't sell systems. Every 2D and 3D platformer fans already own a Wii U, so those can't sell systems. A Mario Galaxy 3 could, but that's because Mario is a huge IP.

StarFox is (nowadays) a niche genre, but it could be the same case as Splatoon. Animal Crossing, SMTxFE, and Pokken Fighters (I do doubt this will come to Wii U) have a good chance though, thanks to them being very big franchises in Japan, and the crossover title expands the possible fanbase.

Either way, this is the Wii U, so I always lower my expectations by 3x the original (optimistic) prediction

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I just meant demographic as in young children, as that's what Aerys mentioned. The shooter fanbase is a whole different story, and I agree that that demographic is relevant.

Mario Maker is still Mario, so it should do something at least. Even if it's not much, it's better than nothing (however after MP10's 'impact' I am a bit skeptical, I just hope the allure of creating your own Mario levels is tempting to the Japanese). Yoshi is still its own IP, and fans of the franchise haven't tasted a console release since the N64 so it has the potential to at least boost the system if Nintendo markets it.

Agreed with all of the bolded.

And I get that.

Yoshi and Mario Maker are not as appealing as Splatoon, you cant make a marketing campaign like Splatoon which is a product really easy to sell to the mass.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

It's not the same for every console in Japan. And PS4, contraty to Vita, has a lot of exclusive games coming this generation ( any PS4/One game is like an exclusive)

And if you count DQ bundle without the game + DQ release, it did much more than 60k, so yes it can easily do taht, and it was only a multiplatform game

In a December week? ...so...?

WU one time sold 110,000 in a December week with nothing... BECAUSE IS DECEMBER.

Not only, around 60,000 in a December week with a new bundle is pretty poor.

"And PS4, contraty to Vita" is not true and even if is doesn't matter, the basis will still be at 10,000 / 12,000 during May or so... Damn, not even 3DS at this point of year is at 20,000!

And i said, not only with Japan market, but GLOBALLY this is the situation. PS4 was easy +300,000 in February and March in the US, but in April PS4 is under 200,000...

Wrong, Wii U didnt sell 110k because of December, but because of big release, Mario 3D World if i remeber well. And last december, even with Mario Kart bundle and SSB, it never reached even half of that, so you see ...

And PS4 didnt sell 60k because of december, you can easily see that by comparing with the previous week, +40k with a bundle of a game without a game is not poor at all but very good.

And sorry but 3DS comparison is stupid, it's an old console with a huge number of system seller, and a handheld console.

At contrary to Vita is true since Vita very few exclusive system sellers

And i said the baseline would be around 20k outside droughts periods  even without big games so i dont see why you are telling me this

Just as well PS4 is selling a bit better than Dreamcast in other markets, aye? Hopefully those other markets will prevent PS4 from being a complete disaster and exiting the market early. But it's early days still, PS4 doom might still happen.

Funny, because I remember everyone saying the opposite about Splatoon. "It doesn't have a market" "It's too niche" Now it's the opposite?

Still, you don't know this. Yeah, it won't be as appealing to people who don't own a Wii U already, but just like Monster Hunter boosts 3DS sales every time and just like Final Fantasy boosted PS3 sales every time, Mario will always boost sales of the Wii U (outside of more niche titles like the sports spinoffs or the party games).

And again, Yoshi is a series that hasn't been on the system yet so it has a chance at moving consoles. Not saying it will be by much, but if marketed well and received well by critics, I would expect a boost or at the very least, continued momentum from Splatoon.
