Forums - Sales - Splatoon outsold The Wonderful 101 by 30:1 first week in Japan.

How could this indie game with no hype and no marketing do that?

This game had marketing just like Mario kart.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Splatoon was affected by the curse of being made by Platinum games. :/

Seriously though, Splatoon had a much stronger marketing campaign behind it so It's not surprsing.

O: Doncha mean Wonderful 101?

Also, scratch one claim against Splatoon down ; )

Oh yeah...
Well I fucked that one up xD

Delicious, delicious games.

Isn't that kinda like doing a heavier benchpress than you r4-year old kid?

There was a user here who predicted sales "on par with Wonderful 101", a claim that has since become something for those who disagreed to poke fun at. ;)

This is similar to the time when Bayo2 FW was compared to W101

Almost every game ever will outsell W101, no need for this threads for a claim one guy did.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If we extrapolate that then we have 9m LT confirmed :p

Off topic but why didn't W101 sell?

The premise was very marketable, as an almost isometric action game its appeal was a tiny bit limited but I'm still confused by it. Poor timing? Would it have sold signifcantly better if it was released today?

Because there was no market for it.

Too "kiddy" for the dudebros, too technical and intimidating for the casuals, mixed reviews, and a no-name IP to boot.

Like gergroy said, Splatoon will have a better launch, but about the same legs.

Do you/gergroy mean absolute or relative? W101 had more sales second year than first.

There was one user saying "So much for being a system seller." in the thread we could see WiiU doubling sales in Japan.
