It's not an easy call 'cause the series was too niche until now, but it's clear how much atention it got recently. I think it might even be able to crack 2.5M, if the hype Japan shows towards it translate in sales. And this game will have a hell of a high score, considering it comes from a niche japanese franchise how they score here in the west that high is already such a incredible feat, but this ones will fight for top 10 exclusive score for the whole gen, it'll score over Bloodborne. Heck, I think it might even pull a 5 star on Metacritic, that's TLOU level. Well, as it'll be way more popular than the previous games I'm sure there will be at least a click-bait and some guys who shouldn't be reviewing JRPGs giving it scores, so maybe pulling that last half star won't happen, but it'll be Bloodborne level at least.

There is a good chance we'll see this happen. I referenced this awhile back, though I can't remember if it was for Persona 5 or another title. Regardless, as Persona edges the needle a bit from niche toward mainsteam, the more the risk of rejection increases.
First, we're gonna have outlets who don't review niche games at all suddenly playing a turn-based, story-driven RPG with time-management elements set in a Japanese high-school. Second, even with outlets who do review niche games, there is a good chance they'll switch to their "A-team" for a hyped game like Persona 5, rather than the odd Japanese RPG fan who often does niche reviews. That means Persona 5 is going to be sandwiched in with people who will spend hours and hours on CoD, Assassin's Creed, and Halo.
Uh oh.
P5 might end up better than P4G yet still score less on Metacritic. Perhaps even quite a bit less.
