As i said, each to their own. I think it's incredibly silly, and am glad Nintendo were punished for it by reviewers. If you disagree, that's fine ^^ |

"getting one extra map and one weapon would only annoy me tbh." ^Your words, not mine. Please don't say my argument doesn't work then provide no reasoning as to why other than because you say so, especially after I already explained why it infact does. And really, it's just a mere 3 days earlier than expected, because they already said it was gonna be a weekly thing. Really there's no basis for being annoyed at the update timing, but for having locked content on disc would be more understandable, though remember you'll eventually have it all if you did buy day one and you don't have to buy games day one. I guess you don't talk to people who actually have the game then for you to think that. This content specifically was already on disc, so you could still ask that question even if did release 3 days later or 3 months later, but the answer has been given many times so I don't see why you'd still need to ask. |
And I still don't understant why you can't understand that some are opposed to the practice of withholding content at launch. But it's okay, we don't have to agree. Let's just kill this discussion.

Agreed. I don't personally see how what appears to be Nintendo cutting content from the core game so that they can drip feed it to their consumers later (thus creating the illusion of them supporting the game more than they really are) is them "prioritizing the players". It's one thing to extend a game's life by creating new content, but this just strikes me as silly. Ah well, as you say, each to their own ^^; |
It is silly. They won't likely have content to release during the summer, thus they are cutting content and releasing later as an illusion of support, like you mentioned. As I said in other thread, this can also flip on the wrong side and the lack of content will bother consumers and left before the new content is added.
Anyway, we will see how this turns.

Ignoring the argument for one second; how fun is ranked mode? Only played a couple of games on it (all poorly and shit) but it's proper good. The new level is pretty fun as well, especially as it's absolute murder on the rollers. Hehehe.
And, getting back to the argument, I don't think it would have worked if it was open at the start; it definitely needs emergent tactics which didn't exist 4 days ago. If ranked mode was turned on at the start, I don't think people would have played it properly as you really do need to know how to play Splatoon in order to understand how the mode works.
Looking forward to trying Port Mackeral in pro-mode. Reckon it'll have 2 zones and be absolutely BRUTAL :D

The cop out!
And of course I understand that people don't like it, as nothing is liked by everyone, I'm just saying that in this specific case the dislike isn't justified as there's no harm at all to the players, only benefits.

Hella fun! It does seem to take longer to get full groups than regular battle, and yeah you definitely need to know what you're doing otherwise you'll get savaged, so holding it off a bit and requiring level 10 status was definitely a good call!

I am not looking forward to a 2 zone map, lol! But I think it'll actually make more sense. In fact, I wonder if they are only starting with 1 zone so that people get the hang of things and then later they will add extra zones to the 1 zone maps. Just a thought. Anyway, I had so much fun with the ranked matches near the end of last night. There is definitely more strategy involved, positioning is incredibly important, and more weapons are viable. However, being on a losing streak could not be more frusterating. I think I will continue to play it over turf wars, but turf wars is indeed a much calmer experience. Looking forward to new modes!
I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Locking away content from players that is already ready to go from the start is beneficial to players now? Wow, how things have changed. Splatoon is incredibly fun even with the locked content and I still don't agree with Nintendo's logic. Having more maps from the start is not a bad thing.

"In this specific case." Don't know or care about how other games handled this.
