I feel like MS lost it's gaming touch. They did pretty well with the first Xbox on did wonders with 360. Peopel could hate on Kinect all they want but I think it added a nice way of gaming and I know a lot of people that still use 360 Kinect games like Kinect Sports, Dance Central, Just Dance etc. It brought good competition to Wii.

360 had the japanese games, it got many jrpgs, schmups, fighting games and weird dating games. MS was all glorious.

They paved the way with online and western games got big because of MS (I still believe that).

Not it's like they scraped all that. They mainly care about getting the next big game or they cancel it. Otherwise they invest in really small titles which I like but they miss all the in between.

I remember reading Phil say that he wanted to build a library of MS owned titles like Nintendo has. I never really cared about people bragging about "true console only retail exclusives" but I liked a lot of MS titles and a lot of them are no more because MS wanted to trim the "fat".

I still prefer Xbox though but many of the games I played on 360 are gone and it's a shame. Bring back the schmups MS!

I was looking forward to ScaleBound so it's disappointing news :(

Then again, it was expected to flop and if they had issues developing the game then I understand MS doesn't want to waste more money. X1 portfolio wouldn't necessarely benefit from another poor performing game with technical issues.

In any case, hopefully they have something nice to announce at E3 because 2017 is not looking too good. Good thing there's multiplats to look forward to, Gears 4 and Fifa17 to play and of course Scorpio :P But Phil needs to get his shit together with gaming, that's for sure.

Damn, I saw Scalebound canceled in this thread title and saw 14k posts and wondered what the fuck was going on. Turns out its the XBE thread lol.

I see people mixing two different issues together, Scalebound cancellation and Microsoft's lack off first party studios. I know one of them affect the other, but Microsoft shouldn't get blamed for the cancellation. The developer should get most of the blame here. This should have been a 2014 project and yet they couldn't delevery it on 2017! 4+ years developing a game and you still aren't close to release it? And guess what, people weren't that impressed with what they saw last August!

I agree with all of you that Microsoft should be blasted about their weak first party team. At its current state, they can only produce two games per year and they should actually produce less.

But unless they proved otherwise, developer should be the one who get blamed on this case.

Since we're talking about Microsoft studios, isn't 343 too big to be handling only one franchise? The thread that just posted on Gaf says they have 450+ employees. When they started the studio they braged about how they acquired the most talented and the best in business. They should split them to three teams:
Team 1: 200+ employees to handle main Halo games.
Team 2: 150+ employees to handle develop other games.
Team 3: 50+ employees to handle Halo spin-offs and non-gaming projects.

I agree. if Platinum wanted to scale back the game just to get it to run properly after all this years of development than it's their fault.

I hate to say it guys, but Xbox is going downhill fast. It's looking like the writing is on the walls, I don't think Xbox is going to be around much longer. Scorpio could very easily flop, with so few 2017 exclusives to push it and a potentially high launch price. If Scorpio flops I don't think MS will bother with another console, we'll see MS Studios go 3rd party or possibly PC only in a continued vain attempt to push Windows Store over Steam.

1st party is majorly on the decline: Lionhead closed, Press Play closed, Team Dakota closed, Twisted Pixel allowed to go independent. Halo on the decline thanks to poor design decisions and poor writing. Gears on the decline. The only new 1st party studio in years, Decisive Games, supposedly closed.

Phil claims that 1st party is no longer their focus and that 2nd party is the future, but look at their 2nd party deals so far this gen. Quantum Break- flopped. ReCore- flopped. Crimson Dragon- flopped. D4- flopped. Sunset Overdrive- decent sales but far from great. Scalebound- Cancelled, Phantom Dust reboot-cancelled. Crackdown 3- having development issues. So far the only 2nd party success this gen has been Ori.

How does Phil not see that they need to be building up their 1st party instead of putting their faith in 2nd party deals? E3 is really Microsoft's last chance, if they don't come out swinging with some huge announcements (new studios, new games, a killer Scorpio price point) I think that's it for Xbox.

I think thats a bit knee-jerk.

In the last year MS has started releasing strong games, fixed their console's image, and sales have rebounded. There was an entire year when the Xbox 360 just about stopped selling and MS stuck with it. We're also past the point where the new CEO is going to can the system - its his child now.

Certainly this is a setback, but a game that always sounded great but never actually looked any good is a bit of a mirage - not a tangible loss. Take a look at Sony's games. For all they too have had some enormous successes (Bloodbourne, UC4), they've also released flop after flop from their first party and second party relationships. Ups and downs are just part of the cycle.

This IS "knee-jerk", somehow it's already the end of Xbox for some people.

As an Xbox owner this gen - I didn't really care about this game and personally, I don't know many people that did.

Yup there is a difference between what the Internet thinks and real life. If you want proof then look at Infinite Warfare even thought it is disliked in the web it is still doing well.

Proud to be a Californian.

Ah I see we hit the Xbox is doomed -phase again :)

Just a few months ago we got to play some amazing exclusives, the new X1 model was selling well and we were excited about upcoming über-console. How quickly things change hehe
