I was just thinking, it's weird how both Dead Space and F.E.A.R. were killed by their 3rd game. It's also funny how both developers basically made the same mistake. Dead Space 3 and F.3.A.R. were both less horror, more generic shooter than previous games in their series and now both series are basically dead, Visceral having moved on to Star Wars and Monolith having moved on to Shadow of Mordor.

That's what happens when you get greedy with your potential userbase. Horror is a little bit of a niche genre, so you're only ever gonna reach so many people max, but then if you make 2 great games in that space and have a franchise with momentum you might suddenly think oh wow we've really got something here....maybe we could turn this into something in a much more lucrative marketspace like a straight up action game. This, no matter how well it might be done, will always fail, because you're alienating the fanbase that got your new franchise where it is, and the people you're trying to expand to aren't looking to jump into SuchAndSuch 3 after the first 2 games where something they really weren't interested in.
