Confirms he pitched it to multiple studios including MS & Sony

So even at 40 million they all said no.

I'm guessing he was pitching it after LawBreakers flopped. I'm sure that factored into the various publishers' decisions to turn him down, hard to trust $40m to a studio that just developed one of the biggest flops in video game history.

I feel like it would be a different story though if MS could build up a studio for it by themselves. Install their own studio head, somebody they know they can trust with $40m. Put Cliffy B on a lead development role as opposed to an executive position, where he belongs.

My theory is that MS rejected it cause they either still had ScaleBound that was similar in concept or they didn't have enough funds at the time. With Scalebound probably dead forever they should give this a try since they need new IP and games for Xbox, what they could do is hire a Third Party Studio to develop this game like Saber Intercative/Certain Affinity/Obsidian etc... and give Cliff a contract with MS Studios to oversee this game as head designer since he doesn't have his own team anymore.

Easier said than done but just wishful thinking.

That game sounds great. Once he's done with his break, MS should hire him and make that game happen.

It also sounds like a mess tbh. Dragons/Samurais/Zombies, it looks like he just put together whatever sounded cool and tried to make a game out of it.

If you had described Horizon: Zero Dawn to gamers before it was announced many people might have said the same thing about it, that the concept of a post-apocalyptic game with tribes and robot dinosaurs was a mess and too crazy to ever work, but Horizon went on to become one of the fastest selling new IP exclusives of all-time. I feel like Horizon proved there is space in the gaming market for unique ideas like this, but many publishers are too scared to do it, they want to keep making the usual games that are a safe bet.

I wish he had pitched this to publishers before he ruined his reputation making LawBreakers, maybe then one of the 6 publishers would have funded it. It's certainly a much more unique idea than LawBreakers and Radical Heights were, those games were both designed just to follow market trends.

Yeah, good point.

tbh, i still think robot dinosaurs are a dumb concept

The game honestly sounds right up Microsoft's alley, they love these kinds of GaaS multiplayer games where they can get money over time through microtransactions. Would be nice if they made it happen for next gen, but it's unlikely.

Yeah the Multiplayer portion of the game might entice MS to reconsider since they seem to be focusing on GaaS, MS have nothing but time if they want to make this game a reality since it looks like many of their new projects that they are working on have a time frame for 2020-22.

Enough with the fucking zombies already.......

Also, as I recall, Cliffy was doing the rounds "pitching the next billion dollar IP" to publishers before he ever settled on Lawbreakers. Chances are his pitches were just shit. If they weren't, one of those big publishers would have given a guy with his past success the honestly measly - in today's gaming market - 40 million or so to go make a game.

So, Borderlands 3 won't be at E3. So much for that rumor.

If that’s coming from their ceo than it may not be accurate at all. He lies a lot. Take 2 already said they have 1 other big unannounced non sports aaa game coming before March. That’s probably borderlands 3

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

I wonder if the V is an hint to the setting, Maybe Vietnam? or since it's labelled as 5 maybe back to a more modern setting.

Also noticed both Mixer and Major Nelson retweeted it as soon as it wen't up so could mean MS marketing deal.
