I found it interesting at the time I saw it but now with the first party games launching into Game Pass and a big focus in general towards the service I wonder if this could be to do with Microsoft picking up a bunch of great indies to launching into Game Pass as well to supplement their first party games to keep sub numbers up. Something like this could make a lot of sense as Indies would retail for $15 anyway so a $10 to play them sounds great along with the other games the pass offers and they are generally shorter to complete than AAA games and I always get the feeling the majority of indie sales come with big 50%+ sales down the line due to their digital nature so this could actually push more revenue for many ID@Xbox developers. |
Plus realistically, even MS is not going to pay the sort of money necessary to make major AAA titles to exclusively release on Gamepass. But 2-3 indies might make sense.
