Why people just post this BS without any solid argument? Unless PS4 and X1 start selling less than their predecessor with aligned launches, you are just taking "evidences" out of thin air. "Oh, PS4 is crushing PS3 numbers, but I think that it will take a nose dive in 3 years without any solid evidence and end up with 80M".

Despite that, X1 ending up behinf their predecessor doesn't mean that the industry is shrinking. It just means that MS's share is shrinking. We can also assume that PS2 gen was a flop because both the Dreamcast and the GC sold less than their predecessor, while Xbox couldn't do it because it was the first of the line (but also, we now know it is the lowest XB in sales.

it is already due to Japan on home consoles aren't that relevant that much. even handheld is losing its market share to smartphones. hence it is shrinking.

Both consoles are down in sales and I do not see anything that will change that trajectory.  Basically its all downhill from here, give or take a few blips.

That means, I think the 3DS will be _lucky_, extremely lucky, to get 80m lifetime sales. The PSV is the same with 15m lifetime sales (maybe 20m).  That's right, the 3DS will end with at max half the sales of the original DS.  The PSV 1/4 the sales of the PSP.

That is pathetic.

And no the other consoles are not yet dying because they are not yet in their full descent sales trajectory.  Though I do believe all but the PS4 will end with lower than their previous gen.  The Wii U will end with a very sizable decrease from the previous gen.

The whole dedicated video game market has shrunk sizably.

I'm sorry, but that's not pathetic. If anything, last gen was an anomaly. The 3DS is setting to sell about as similar as previous Nintendo handhelds. While the Vita is clearly a flop, it's also still doing better than previous Nitendo HH competitors.

Less than the GB. Roughly equal to the GBA, if its super super lucky.  We have a growing population. You should not be selling equal to two gens ago.

That's the current case in Japan. IF it remains like that, because PS4 still has to get real Japanese titles. Handhelds are a shrinking market.

But home consoles? How can people say that when we have probably 35M PS4/X1 sold in less than 2 years? They are crushing their predecessor and PS4 didn't even had a price cut yet.

The market is shrinking.

The handheld lifetime will be less than half previous gen and probably barely keeping up with 2 gens ago if its lucky.  Smartphones are kicking its ass.

This gens console lifetime is still too young to know fully what the end will look like but I feel fairly confident it will not outsell previous gen by a good margin and could potentially be 3/4 or 1/2 previous gen.  That is just not good.

Any argument for that? That's the problem with this kind of predictions. There isn't any proof or reasonable argument, it's just a wild guess.

in Japan, the growth of sales of PS4 and WiiU isn't that great this gen.

For PS4 and X1 WW, PS360 was stretched longer and have good sales.  If PS4 and X1 really needed to push these next gen, they need to stop PS360 by the end of the year. if PS360 is still getting decent sales it hinders the growth of the PS4 and X1.  PS4 and X1 won't reach the heights on the previous gen unless they drop the price into a very low level which i doubt they would.

The Playstation Vita. I love it. Fantastic system. I have over 100 games for it. The most under-appreciated system ever. Dreamcast is #2??????? It sure as shit isn't #1!!!!!!!!

Wii U sales are a shadow of the formor Wii sales.

PS3 and X360 had a very strong surge in the mid-late gen.  Without a strong push by both MS and SONY for sales via price cuts I think the sales will coast into equalizing with the previous gen.  Yes it's a guess, but on the flip side I see no real reasoning that suggests it's going to somehow far surpass previous gen.
