So the Vita is close to over taking the handheld market in Japan! (Weekly peeps! Weekly!) So was I right?

Why people just post this BS without any solid argument? Unless PS4 and X1 start selling less than their predecessor with aligned launches, you are just taking "evidences" out of thin air. "Oh, PS4 is crushing PS3 numbers, but I think that it will take a nose dive in 3 years without any solid evidence and end up with 80M".

Despite that, X1 ending up behinf their predecessor doesn't mean that the industry is shrinking. It just means that MS's share is shrinking. We can also assume that PS2 gen was a flop because both the Dreamcast and the GC sold less than their predecessor, while Xbox couldn't do it because it was the first of the line (but also, we now know it is the lowest XB in sales.

The market is shrinking.  

The handheld lifetime will be less than half previous gen and probably barely keeping up with 2 gens ago if its lucky.  Smartphones are kicking its ass.

This gens console lifetime is still too young to know fully what the end will look like but I feel fairly confident it will not outsell previous gen by a good margin and could potentially be 3/4 or 1/2 previous gen.  That is just not good.
