Now that there has been a sandbox online-only racing game on the market, I'm doubtful that consumers will be open to this decision and be willing to give it a (2nd) chance.

@JonBarry3 Being connected will allow your friends to be part of your narrative experience, something only possible through connected play.

Trust me; people care. I would never consider buying another title that demands I'm always online for single player and the vast majority of gamers I know feel the exact same way. Did you miss the massive storm of complaints over Diablo III and Sim City?
Diablo III managed to sell very well but it had no online community to speak of after a year or so, Sim City didn't do very well at all and was hated globally for the ridiculous always online demand.
To be honest though, I wasn't very excited about this title to begin with, it has been many years since Need for Speed was fun, but this is the final nail in the coffin for me.
There's already always online games on consoles that people didn't complain about

What kind of dumb crap!? I had no intention of playing this game with "friends", I'd like to see them try and justify why it "needs" an internet connection -_-
"The online benefits are nice"
Yes the online benefits are nice, but that is no reason the game has to be always online.
The single player components of the game do not require always online, it's lying.
EA lied through there teeth about the Sim City always online requirements and there lying now.
Fuck EA
This is the Game of Thrones
Where you either win
or you DIE

Look at the mess Simcity was... due to this always online bullcrap (it was a lie too, a modder found a solution).
Later on they patched it out because it was ruining the game <.<
Im not in favor of support companies that do these things that end up hurting the gamer.
