Errr. Seems like this is not really the case. They refer to the first model as a "Legacy Platform", i.e. the 1000 model which has been discontinued.

You may wanna update the title and the OP.

That's clear damage control from Sony, and even then it's more of a case of adding insult to injury.

I gotta agree. It would be wise to not announce its death until they unload all the PSTVs they have lying around. Those seem to be the tougher sell than the Vita itself.

They are saying this since 2013...
Anyway after this news Sony gave a new statement where they say that this was a fail and that they still will continue with PS Vita.

The last paragraph of this article is brutal.

I made a thread about this, people should see Sony's statement.

Am I the only one that thinks its a sad state of affairs?
That mobiles kill the handhelds? I dont get why the vita doesnt sell more (apart from its price), its a great system.

Because it just isn't liked/wanted/redundant. Same way Firefly got cancelled. It was a great show. But not 20 million viewers, like Big Bang Theory.

The Vita still has alot of potential as a platform but it falls into the competitive category as tablets and mobile devices only it has much better controls, but that doesnt justify a 200$ purchase. It needs to stand out and justify its pricetag or join Nintendo in its lineup of coming games to mobile devices. There is no doubt it can survive with the right marketing approach.

For anyone interested in RPGs btw, Konami is having daily Suikoden stream to measure interest and potentially save the Suikoden series by showing that people still care about it. If enough people join in and discuss it they may release the games on Steam, make sequals etc.

So please join in at http://www.twitch.tv/konami 3:30 PM Pacific time every weekday and discuss the series or just discover it if you're curious.

Yeah... like Sony ever cared for it after launch. Oh boo-hoo a monster hunter clone didnt perform as well as the real thing.
If perhaps they had greenlit that second uncharted game Bend wanted to make for it, sales would have been better.

Quite honestly, i have been severely disappointed by Sony and all i asked of them was to localise the japanese games that are still beeing made or out in japan. But, even that they seem incapable of doing.

Ergh... i get too annoyed thinking about this. Its not the first time Sony has disappointed me. I just hope they deliver with the PS4, otherwise i may have to contemplate skipping the next one of their systems again. I just hate it when Sony gets arrogant.

But we've seen more Vita localizations than ever before. There are many things to complain about, but localizations on Vita is not one of them.

Been saying this for a while, but now Sony's confirmed it. Sony really sent this thing out to die. Hopefully, it will get the rumored massive price drop. Wouldn't mind having one for PS Classics and indies on the go.

Yeah i broke mine 2 years ago and didn't care to replace it. but for that rumored price I'd use it just as you said, throw some music on there, videos, etc.

plus there's remote play for ps4.

They  are in two points. First, there are still several good games stuck in japan with no localisation confirmed (Tales of innocence R, God Eater 2, etc. Check the Vita thread for a list on the poll). and second because Sony has not bothered to localise a single one. They made no effort beyond their own releases.
