Forums - Gaming - Will PS4s popularity reinvigorate the western Japanese market?

If Japanese titles become more popular in the West, I think globalization will play a bigger factor than the PS4's success in and of itself.

Koei Tecmo are supporting the West this year through the return of Nobunaga's Ambition for PS4/PS3/PC.

Also titles such as Bladestorm Nightmare, Toukiden Kiwami, Dead or Alive V: Last Round, Deception 4: The Nightmare Princess, Samurai Warriors 4-II, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 and more have been confirmed for an overseas release this year.

No I think in Japan, 5 millions ps4 , ps4 is a flop in japan.

DQ11 on 3ds with mh5 is possible

its not about japan,

its about japanese games in the West.

Okay, I hope Dragon quest heroes 2 !

PS4 popularity isn't going to change people's bad tastes. Nothing can.

Maybe, I hope so, I also hope that japanese devs realize that they need to make their games more globally accessible again instead of increasingly working themselves into a niche. It's kinda the same problem that anime is facing, creators feel that interest in the west for their work is lacking as well as that the japanese market is shrinking, so they either focus their energy on the series they know work or aim their work increasingly at the Otaku market.

But while I can somewhat understand that tactic in the anime business (after all how many people seriously pay to watch anime in the west), it's a completely self defeating tactic for games that has made the japanese gaming industry only fall behind the western indsustry in the last years.

I seriously hope so it does.

I think it will as we are seeing more and more announcements from games that don't usually come to home consoles or out of Japan.

I hope so but I feel that Western-design has penetrated gaming and is here to stay. We have seen Japanese built franchises like Metal Gear Solid adopting Western style gameplay and controls(went from top-down camera to behind the shoulder third-person, added camera control to the right stick etc). Even Final Fantasy XV has ditched the turn based battle system and has become a semi-hack & slash game, implemented cover system etc. Even Nintendo is trying their hand at making a competitive first-person shooter although it still has a Japanese twist to it. I feel that true Japanese style games will not be popular but I hope I am dead wrong

I don't know. Sadly, I feel like a lot of Japanese devs are bowing out regardless of successful gaming devices. Konami and SEGA have opted to go mobile, with many others going out of business entirely.

It's not like Konami made many games anyway (as far as I know). And I doubt it was the japanese AAAs he was talking about.
