All depends on how long the vita gets supported for. If the vitas around for years after wii u is replaced Japan might help it limp ahead. But wii u will be ahead by the time it's done imo.
Vita is down yoy and had a PSTV fire sale that has boosted this year's figures.... Down yoy with a fire sale... That's not good guys. Some serious straw clutching going on in here.

Pretty sure the Vita is on its way out while the Wii U is still up YOY. I think the Wii U will keep selling especially since it has so many potentially great games coming this holiday and next.

Vita has been dropped by Sony. They have said themselves that they aren't supporting the system anymore so it's all up to third parties, and if they stop making money off it (only in Japan) then it will stop entirely. The Wii U isn't selling well, but it is selling all over the world as opposed to Japan. Since Sony said they have stopped supporting it, there likely will not be a new rendition of the Vita because that is support for it.
The Wii U will outlive the Vita and will have far more support, so it very likely will outsell the Vita. The Vita likely only has 1 more year in it really.

Based just on the difference in support for the two consoles, I sincerely doubt Vita will outsell Wii U. Sony has more or less abandoned the Vita while Nintendo are still doing tons to support Wii U. Nintendo has also said that their current consoles (Wii U/3DS) will be their focus this E3, which implies there's plenty more support we haven't seen for the console yet.

i would really like to know what kind of real info we have about vita sales because up until even the most recent quarter PSP has been included in the sales, this will be the last time though. We can't even get leaks from NPD sometimes for vita, we are basically running on Japan numbers. Do we even have a number reported after 2.2 million for june 30th 2012?

At this point I really don't really see the need for these sorts of threads. It's unnecessary competition from two completely different platforms only connected by the fact both are failures. It's usually the same people commenting on them and if not it's usually very obvious who is rooting for who and no one thread will magically change that. Just compare them to their ACTUAL competition: Pit the Wii U against the X1/PS4, it's last place. The Vita against the 3DS? Last place. There, both are last place and will never live to see their full potential as much as that sucks.

Wii U outselling Vita 2x-3x time in holiday periods, everywhere except Japan Vita is dead.
