Forums - Gaming - I'm Calling It Now MGSV is the Next Big Thing in the Gaming World

Doubt it. Nothing new, nothing interesting. More of the same ole' same ole'. Nothing wrong with what it is, but it's more of what it isn't.

So making the game open world, adding new multiplayer modes, adding dynamic weather, adding your own base that you can customize and defend from invasions, summoning allies, parkour, the balloon thing, new moves for Snake, dog companion, dynamic events that occur at certain times of the day, and a crap ton more isn't enough.  What do they have to do to make it enough for you?

Nah XCX defines open worlds in it's variety and design to be explore as much vertically with the mech as it is on the ground like any other open world game. MGSV is kinda typical.

lol.. whats so special about XCX again? We've had open world games since 2000, are you just new to the genre?

I been playing games since 1986 so no. The world design is such what most games fail to do. Games lke Skyrim,GTAV even. GTAV uses PS2 era design with invisible walls. Skyrim well that series has not eveolved since Arena and since ESII gets smaller and less content. XCX designs the world with no walls. It's designed where the engine can't be broken. They did it with XB on Wii as well. The engine seriouly can't be broke while most open world games full of funny glitches. One reason there is no fall damage from any hieght even a few thousand foot drop. You also can walk up any cliff really at a 90 degree angle. Game will not limit you in any fashion. Won't slow you down like ES cliffs not there to stop you like most games. Each area is very different and some transform at night. So they differ than some standards to begin with in design and function but transform. Top that they designed the world to be explored as much vertical as you are on the ground essentially doubling it's size. That tall volcano you see. Most games that is a wall you can't go above or past while in XCX you can fly over it go down inside it and explore hidden caves.

MGSV looks like another fine entry to the series and I will play it on my PS4 but it's world is a typical desert and on horseback. That's in no way bad but it's not changing game design it's following a tried trend which will work for the game but it's not changing design while XCX has.

It's what PS2 era design like this

From no walls forward design like this

Not talking about one is sci fi and one based inr eality just in terms of world design that is dated. XB on Wii used the same forward thinking with no walls and realize games are in 3D so let's explore them with full 3D thinking while so many live ina  2D mindset. BTW We had open world games since 1981. Ultima. ;)

What happens when you fly off into the horizon in XCX? Is that gif from a story mission? I think you are greatly exaggerating the strengths of Xenoblade Chronicles X and its "unbreakable" engine. Just yesterday I saw Tachikoma get stuck between invisible walls during her Twitch stream. Apart from mechs and a crazy SciFi settings "verticality" and "freedom" have  been done countless times before in open world games. Just Cause 2 comes to mind.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

You don't get game design is all

With all due respect, are you an expert on the subject?

Never really wanted to get into the series, but hopefully this game is well received, as it will no doubt push PS4 consoles if it is.

Well, yeah.. But it kinda kills any excitement when you're aware of both Konami and MGS's situation/future

Holy Hyperbole lol. I'm just going with no

this game will blow the barriers between tom clancy roman, action movie and game.
will be the game of the generation without problems.

it will get hyped simply because its kojima's last MGS game, good or bad

Only being a Kojima game is enough to be hyped. That man is god.
