Forums - Gaming - Do You Want Virtual Reality/Augmented or Not? Fad or Not?

VR will die a terrible death..... AR will eventually succeed but not necessarily for gaming.

What exists and passes now for VR is pathetic. That "VR" will be a fad, real VR will exist someday in the future.

Matrix here we come.... 300years from now? I dont want a wire stuck into my brain, or chips in there no thanks.

The VR we have now, where its a helm you wear i s a screen is the best possible solution short of some really sci fi ish stuff.

I think it ll be really good for 3D games, where head movement can correlate to your camra movements in games.

That alone will make VR worth it, and should be easy to impliment for so many games.

I'm not really interested in VR, unless it is incredibly immersive. You either go all the way or not at all. Unless it gets to that point, I have absolutely no interest in it.

Depends on the price for me but I would rather have Microsoft's AR (if done right) than VR cause VR looks like too much of a hassle to me, specially since I can't see whats in front of me irl at any given time so me watching porn will be a bit stressful cause idk if someone is knocking or not

It's definitely less than 300 years from now. All the technology needed for proper VR either exists or will exist in the next 15 years. You wouldn't need chips, however you may need wires wrapped around key nerves in order to feel/ trick your brain into thinking you're moving/feeling. You would probably also need a mask to smell the world around you as well. I also don't believe turning your head physically to move the image (in current "VR") is the right way to go. Instead it should move as you think it should move (camera follows brain/muscle patterns to predict movement in-game) versus having to turn your head which does cause brief lag and lack of sense of immersion (it might be too fast for the human brain to see though). There's other stuff too that needs to be added before I really consider it real VR.

The helmet is a cheap gimmick. Real VR may be too expensive for commercial sales, instead (if it ever gets as fleshed out as I see it) it would be at specific locations, similar to how arcade machines used to be too expensive to own at home. Plus it'd probably be used for other purposes before it's implemented into the gaming scene.

I really don't care about it.

 no, just...no.

I've always felt liek VR was a fad and it has been for years, sure it's popular once again but I don't see it taking center stage and even if it did it would only last a few years than decade after decade like some people think it will.

AR I'm definitely interested in more so than VR, it's already looking useful for every day apps and I reckon it will also do good for some games.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

if nintendo made it... it is...
