It's definitely less than 300 years from now. All the technology needed for proper VR either exists or will exist in the next 15 years. You wouldn't need chips, however you may need wires wrapped around key nerves in order to feel/ trick your brain into thinking you're moving/feeling. You would probably also need a mask to smell the world around you as well. I also don't believe turning your head physically to move the image (in current "VR") is the right way to go. Instead it should move as you think it should move (camera follows brain/muscle patterns to predict movement in-game) versus having to turn your head which does cause brief lag and lack of sense of immersion (it might be too fast for the human brain to see though). There's other stuff too that needs to be added before I really consider it real VR. The helmet is a cheap gimmick. Real VR may be too expensive for commercial sales, instead (if it ever gets as fleshed out as I see it) it would be at specific locations, similar to how arcade machines used to be too expensive to own at home. Plus it'd probably be used for other purposes before it's implemented into the gaming scene. |
no, just...no.
