Yes! Excellent news. Its something Nintendo should have done a while ago and its one of the top gripes the Nintendoomers have against them. Unified account system and no Region Lock? What will they not like next?

Well is not easy but is not hard and complicated either. If Sony and Microsoft can why not Nintendo. They need fix their company infrastructure for more open and global, including their marketing

I don't think regoin locking is a massive thing except for indies as they have to jump though alot of hoops (ratings) to get there games released in multiple markets

I hope Nintendo's NeXt console won't be a game only machine (still game centered) Also would be nice if they use UHD bluray and of course no region locking would great.

A simple firmware upgrade can do it. Iwata is acting like its a big thing. At 2013 E3 when angry Joe asked about DRM to major nelson he said it cant be done. A week later ot was announced DRM and region locking is gone. This who are modding 3DS are removing region locking with custom firmware.

QFT. Region locking could've been relegated to a philosophical difference if Nintendo localized every game for every region. But they don't...so here we are in 2015, with issues their competitiors handled years ago. Y'know, as a life-long Nintendo fan, I'm not even angry anymore. I expect it at this point.
