Forums - Sales - Super Smash Bros Brawl sells over 1.25 million copies on day 1

if they had printed more copies I think it could have outsold halo 3 week 1.
But it sold really well in japan, while Halo3, like most good 360 games, only sold ok.

We're talking worldwide, and we can't know if it beat it until the numbers are out. At this point, the first week of Brawl sales is only halfway over in the US, and months away for europe.

Outrageous rounding FTW!!

The 1M in Japan is actually 843K, the Halo 3 record is 3.84M not 3.8M. This adds 200K to the Europe launch week, making it 1M. 2M was first week shipments, ioi in his first post said between 1.8-2M first week for NA. Meaning in Europe SSBB will have to have a launch week of 1-1.2M to equal Halo 3's first week.

1.2M is more than SSBM sold lifetime in Europe and is about double what SSB sold lifetime. Also Europe is nowhere near as front loaded as either Japan or NA. Given that the SSB series has always been more popular in Japan, don't expect in your wildest dreams that SSBB will have a bigger launch week in Europe. Expect 400-600K.

I contend that historical data cannot apply to a game hyped this much. If it did, MGS4 would have much worse sales than everyone expects. I'm not defending my opinion, I'm just explaining that while you and others might think this historical data is relevant, I'm convinced its not.

@Bingoo: I'm smoking weed, fyi.

Yes, my hopes are wishful thinking, and I'm almost certain they won't come true, but I do believe, however, that Brawl has a very good chance of outselling Halo 3 on week 1, as I believe it will outsell Halo 3 in Others on the first week, at a minimum.

How about the sales of the Wii? Do Nintendo still having supply issue? & attach rate?

Halo 3 $170 million in sales (1st day) = 2.8 million copies?

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Hi everyone.

This is still unofficial at this stage (i'll be keen to see what Nintendo announce in the coming days), but our data is showing around 1.25 million copies of Brawl sold on Sunday 9th March in America following the midnight launch. Well over 2 million copies of the game were shipped and we are expecting it to hit somewhere in the region of 1.8-2.0 million by the end of the week.

It looks like Smash's first week sales world wide will beat Halo 3's first week sales world wide. And, of course, Smash will have *much* better legs. I'd look at this game to have better legs than the previous Smash Brothers games.

Halo 3 $170 million in sales (1st day) = 2.8 million copies?

Nintendo does not have even close to enough supply to meet demand in the US.  The Wii still sells out within hours of hitting selves, often selling out before the store even opens as people still wait in line.

How did you figure 2.8 million copies?  How many of those were Legendary Editions for $130?  Halo 3 did less than 3.8 million copies world wide on its first week -- a number Smash Brothers is likely to surpass if you combine the first week from each region.

If you look at previous SSB installments you will find out that it hardly sells 1m lifetime in Europe (SSB 0.65M, SSBM 1.14M). Halo 3's record is safe... until FFXIII ;P

I doubt it. I predict that Brawl will easily sell 1m in others on week one.  Using historical data for Smash Brothers, as you know, will simply not do, if due to nothing else, the hype and review scores Brawl has recieved in america and the increased word of mouth from the Internet.

In my personal opinion, Brawl will likely outsell its American debut, in Others, and yea, I'm serious.

I predict that if Brawl breaks 2m in Americas this week, then Halo 3's record is gone, according to VGchartz numbers, at least.

....pass whatever it is you are smoking...

what he's saying isn't outrageous....2mil in Americas + 1mil in Japan is only 800k away from Halo 3's record, with Others still to launch...it def is possible for Others to sell more than 800k in launch week

This will be interesting. From my anecdotal evidence, i could say that Brawl is the most hyped game ever around here, but that's just a small sample. In Europe the sales definately focus on legs, more than to the first week. Anyway, in behalf of big launch numbers, speak things like the big hype and larger installbase that where the previous SSB:s were launched and against, that the previous 2 sold only around 2M combined and Mario Kart will get its launch a little earlier. Brawl will outsell the previous SSB:s in LT sales in others as well as beat their launch sales, but will it sell enough to beat Halo 3 first week WW? It certainly is possible, but i would say unlikely.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

SSBB Attachment rates:

Japan: 16.1% (842K SSBB out of 5204K Wiis)

Side info: If you count a family average of 3.5 people in Japan, 2% of the entire population of Japan bought SSBB in the first week.

America (only first day): 1250K SSBB out of 9730K Wiis = 12.8%

Europe first day sales, if they are the same AR as in USA: 919K.

Total sales needed throughout the week to beat Halo 3: 800K.

So if Europe has the same attachment rate of day 1 as USA had, the game will need to sell 800 combined over both the areas, throughtout of the week.

It will do that - but will 12.8% of all Wii owners in Europe buy SSBB on first day?

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Well there goes my 1.2 million prediction ... man SSBB is selling fast :o
