Sony honestly does not deserve this. They are not offering a decent 1st party library for the unanimous market leader.

It certainly begs the question where all the excitement is coming from. The popularity of 3rd party multiplats has drastically fallen, as the sales show, there are too few 1st party games to boast about, many games are still cross-gen.

Honestly, Sony's dominance this gen makes little sense to me. Moreoever, the WiiU is underselling and hasn't seen one proper price drop. wtf Nintendo.

Some of you guys are acting like it's some kind of fluke or that the PS4 got lucky.

Go look at PS2.... Most of it's hardware sales were sold in it's first half of the console lifespan and not after it had a massive game library. Why is that? Not many people buy a console for it's starting line up. They pick a console based on the console's game history and what kind of games are typically on that brand of console. Also, a lot of gamers are aware of the games that were announced and have a long list of games they want. Sony has many exclusives that haven't been released yet.

It takes a long time for any console to build up a decent library. The console gens always start off slow and takes a bit of time for a steady stream of games to be released.

This.  but even after what you said, it has been proven in multiple gens that the driving force for a ps consoles were and still are multiplats.  Their first parties games are just icing on the cake which I'm sure they will deliver if last gen is any indication.

What else can one say when the PS4 is selling at double the rate the X1 is WW? There is no way to roundabout the situation.

That Sony will win by a nose. Or that after MS release in tier 2 countries and China it will pass ps4.

You missed the point of my post. I never alluded to them not being on top in terms of sales. Just because your selling twce as good as the competitor does not always mean your doing as much work in comparison to deserve it.

It's the console with more overall games and exclusives, it has innovative features that improve gamers' experience (Share Play, Remote Play, fast downloads, etc.), It's the most powerful console with superior version of multiplats and it will have a VR helmet. I think these things make the PS4 pretty much different and superior to the competion in my opinion.

No most of those points don't make it superior to it's competition lol. Microsoft has hololens to counter sony's vr helmet. Fast downloads is not innovation and my xbox has no issues downloading fast just like my ps4. Having more games doesn't make your system better, but it is a plus in the grand scheme of things. Neither console have released a lot of great exclusives recently so having a few more really means nothing when most of them are sub-par.

Good to have playstation as the marketleader.

Why is that a good thing to have someone forming a monopoly?.

Market leader is not a monopoly.... even if PS4 was the only console on the market.

The competition between developers to get consumers money keeps them accountable and competitive.

If Sony implement a release quota then we would have some monopoly problems.

The reason PS4 is successful is because of a few reasons.

1.)  Started out at a cheaper price.  100$ is a good amount of money.

2.) Better launch perception.

3.) Better multiplats.  //Third parties sell most of the systems, only a small handful of first parties sell well and none of those have been released yet.

Your argument may be that the first two of these don't matter.  But they still do, and here's why.

The early success means that many early adopters had a PS4.  The importance of the early adopters is that people know other people who have a console.  This means that if you want to play with your friends, you need to buy a PS4.  And online play is getting bigger and bigger, so this matters more and more.

So even though, the XBO is now cheaper, it doesn't matter because people want to play with their friends.  In addition, PS4 still has the best multiplats.

My point was coming from a perspective of their continued success. They deserved the initial sales and success as they capitalized on Microsofts blunder and got a good head start. Though now those first 2 points don't matter as much. The better launch perception only last for a little while or at least it should as after a few months customer should wonder what now? In terms of newer offerings and experiences for consumers both Microsoft and Sony have been about equal, but Sony keeps selling better and that's not because of slightly better resolution on multiplats.

Being cheaper from the start should not keep sony ahead when the xbox one is cheaper now and has been on equal footing with sony in terms of a lot of things. Sony started off doing more and deserving their success but now it seems like they aren't doing anything spectacular in comparison to Microsoft to warrant the continued lead over them in weekly and monthly sales.

Right now whats carrying the Sony sales:

1) Better multiplats versions (more stable fps, higher resolutions, better graphics in certain games)
2) Its the stronger of the two options, by a decent bit (gpu strength advantage)
3) Sony always support its consols, its a safe buy. *People looking forwards to VR.
4) Bigger games library, more upcomeing games than on Xbox1.

Microsoft cant really do anything about 1) or 2).

"Winning" a console war generally boils down to making the least mistakes. Like I've said it's like playing golf ... the golfer that can complete the course with the fewest shots (the lowest score) wins the game.

Sony made the fewest mistakes, so they deserve to win. That's really all it boils down to.

Pros:

- Good hardware

- Good pricing from day 1

- Good marketing

- Good third party support

Cons

- Library has been slow to build and over flooded with cross-gen/last-gen remake titles as developers struggle to come to grips with this new generation. But this is only a temporary issue, most consumers are savvy enough to know that having been through previous console cycles.

This. The first year or two of a console cycle is always bare when it comes to "must have games." That said I've played my PS4, in the first 18 months, more than any console I've ever owned and I have less time to use it due to having a job and family and a gaming PC sitting right next to it. And when RB4 comes out it'll never be shut off.

OT: Sony very much nailed it with the PS4 and MS squandered their XB360 cred with all the missteps around the launch. But we all already knew this, didn't we?

Open your eyes. A generation isn't made of a recent months. It's made of the entire history from start to finish.

If Sony started better than MS, MS doesn't catch up by running the same speed as them. They have to run twice as fast just to even have a chance of cactching up.

I have never seen a race, where one guys messes up his start, and then catches up because he's running the same speed as him, that's not how anything in the real world works.

The only way the current situation doesn't make sense, is if you ignore everything before this year.

Let me simply this even further:

If Sony isn't doing anything spectacular in comparison to Microsoft, a statement that doesn't make sense considering Microsoft is the one trying to catch up but i digress,

THEN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR MS TO MAGICALLY CATCH UP, AND THE ENTIRE SITUATION MAKES ABSOLUTE SENSE,

IF MS WANTS TO DO AS GOOD AS SONY WITH PS4, THEY NEED TO BE AT LEAST TWICE AS GOOD, not basically even.

If one guy gets 5 apples in the beginning and the other person only gets 2 at the beginning, Is anyone going to act suprise when the other guy has a 3 apple lead on the other even though they have both been getting one apple every week? No.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

He's pretty spot on.
Sony even went public, at the beggining of it's PS4 reveal, who they wanted and what they would offer them. Straight to the point.

MS spoke too much about Kinect, about entertainment and the 500$ price point is something that gamers weren't really going to support.

Not to mention the 2nd hand games debacle where Sony was seen as the good guys and MS as the greed ones.

Microsoft definitely deserved the struggle after their shitty reveal and terrible management leading up to launch, and their launch price. Sony pretty much just stuck with the status quo from last gen.

It's going to win them the gen, but Idk about saying they "deserve it" or praising them when, while they likely would have sold more anyway, the difference in sales is more about what MS did wrong than what Sony did right. People said the same thing last gen about Sonys mistakes.

I mean it's going to be over 2 years after release before we really see an awesome Sony developed original game on the console, assuming Uncharted is good.
