How do you feel about linear games?

I have no problem with them 99 83.19%

I hate them 4 3.36%

I'm neutral 16 13.45%

For me it isn't an issue of linearity, it is more an issue of the invisible wall corridors.

Certain genre's do linear way better then others. As was pointed out by a previous poster, RPG's I feel are way better when they are non linear (JRPG's like FF5 and Suikoden) and western like Fallout 3, Skyrim, Dragon Age 1). When an RPG is not linear it is usually a negative trait like FF XIII, Dragon Age 2.

Some types of games must be linear (Adventure type games for instance). Sherlock Holmes adventure games more or less hold your hand from clue to clue (which is fine and I enjoy those games). They focus on the case, characters and such without bogging you down with combat or anything to draw you out of that experience. When a game like the Order throws shooting corrals at you during your "cinematic Experience" it just muddies the waters. Games liek Sherlock Holmes let you explore the environment still and soak it in, while the order limits what you can do back down to....corridors.

Eternal Sonata did linearity right. So I don't mind linear games.

You should play ALBW.

hmm.. well, linear games have this habit of treating the player like an idiot - why is it necessary to blow up/obstruct the way back every few meters? (I'm looking at you Uncharted)

No. Some of the best games last generation were linear games.

Absolutely not.

Phoenix Wright and Narcissu are my favorite games.

Nope.

Its simply up to your taste.

A bit mean that you dont give the option on your poll for those that like them.

The first one was supposed to imply that you like them XD Maybe it wasn't clear by the wording

Definitely not. That's what we've been lead to believe these past years: linear games are overdone, the way to go is open-world games.
