Forums - Sales Discussion - Are China Sales The Missing 900,000?

It makes perfect sense. Vgchartz shows 21.4 million and March sales have been calculated. Sony's presser announced an update of 22.3 end of March.

Ali made the point of those were "shipped" implying the 900,000 claim is invalid.

The numbers aren't invalid. Vgchartz is an equal opportunity employer. Shipped or sold numbers doesn't matter.

It's very simple. You're implying the numbers for PS4 were "shipped" so they shouldn't be counted.  Sony's press release today confirmed 22.3 million. It doesn't matter if shipped or sold because Vgchartz doesn't.

The Xbox One numbers on the front page are "shipped". They have been since this gen started.

Does that help?

I'm assuming your new to VG Chartz. The numbers VG Chartz tracks is sold to consumers, most big companies when they report their sales it's shipped to retailer, the number is always going to be bigger then what VG Chartz has. If it's around a million more then what VG Chartzhas then there's a good chance its undertracked. Seems like there could be anywhere from 500K to 1 million consoles sitting on shelves or in the back of warehouses of retailers.

Sony reported 22.3 million shipped units and we have around 21.4 units sold through to end user with half-a week still left on March on those, that leaves another approx. 100k units or so, giving us perhaps 21.5 in sellthrough and thus 800k on shelves.

There is always product in the channel, on shelves, in transit and in storage awaiting shipment and distribution; there is no missing 900k consoles. If anything, it is more likely to be slightly overtracked in here.

Shipped or sold does matter and vgchartz has always operated with sold to end user numbers. It really is as simple as that.

100,000 sales in China were added to the Xbox One total and were never confirmed as "sold". So no, your claims are false.

I'm sure they are plenty of other examples but we will just leave this conversation as VGchartz is "sold through".

this is just false.  Vgchartz doesn't even have a breakdown of minor regions and xbox was launching in many countries at that time.  Countries outside of NA, europe, Japan, UK, and Germany are all put together.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Ok, things are a lot clearer. I appreciate the info.

What was the estimate that Brett added for the China sales of PS4?

I wish I knew the answer for that question, i don't think Brett has any idea either.

Sony shipped 200k and I don't recall news of selling out so less than 200k
