Like I said elsewhere, if you don't want to, you don't have to buy the game at launch. For those that do, there will be content to play at launch and throughout the year, but feel free to wait until everything has already been released. However, with this strategy, Nintendo may be able to increase the longevity of the online modes and bolster/center the online community, creating an overall better gameplay experience. The worst thing for a game like this is to have it release, followed by the community dispersing and trickling into nothing. As long as the content stays free, I don't really understand all of the complaints.

The level of vitriol is overkill to say the least.

Me not buying the game at launch makes no difference to my argument. "You don't have to buy it" or "it's just an option" doesn't shift the fact that they're selling an anemic and incomplete game at launch. If the game doesn't have a good review launch, it'll have no legs. If it gets bombed at launch for having no content, where will the legs come from exactly? Will review sites update their reviews every time free content comes out? Of course not, because not one will care by that point.

This game is going to sell well enough at launch and fall straight off right after once word gets out that it's a shell with nothing in it. Like Titanfall, people won't line up in droves once the content finally is up to snuff.

The game deserves even more of a shit storm than it's getting, and I called that months ago.

What? That's not necessarily true. Legs for Competitive games like Splatoon will depend on word of mouth and strength of the community.  Yes, good reviews are desirable, but its not the end all of things. The original Super Smash Bros. didn't open with great reviews, nor did it have much content and yet the series turned out to be one of Nintendo's most succesful IP.

So now Nintendo thinks we're complete idiots incapable of playing such a "sophisticated" game?

Did Super Mario 3D World cut the bonus worlds at launch just to release them at a later date? You know, it might be too hard for us "dumb" gamers...

Did DKC: TF release the K-levels and the bonus world at a later date because it demanded more skilled players? No!

These games let you earn those harder, more technical levels by showing skill.

Err....da fuq are you on about? You are stretching my words so far into the absurd that they aren't even recognizable. Your comparisons are beyond ridiculous, and seem to only emphasize my point:

"These games let you earn those harder, more technical levels by showing skill."

HOW IS THAT ANY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT SPLATOON IS DOING? Like in SM3DW and DKC, you don't get to play the extra hard level right out of the gate. You have to work through a lot of content to get to that point. As Splatoon is an online game, its "player" is the general community, and as such, the community has to work through the content to get to the more technical levels. Throwing people into these levels right out of the gate wouldn't make much sense, so they are allowing players to accumulate a skill base before asking them to tackle a bigger challenge. That is the same way virtually every single player game works, with the only difference being that in the transition to multiplayer, you aren't waiting for personal growth, you are waiting for community growth. Because of this, post launch releases make more sense than anything else.

No you don't, it's not available to you and you can't unlock it by showing skill. It will be automatically unlocked at an arbitrary release date.

What you said didn't make much sense. If it made so much sense then why has no other shooter game done the same?

I can't even recall a modern shooter game that only launched with 5 multiplayer maps and 2 online modes.

I thought it looked great. Really like new weapons shown and the hubworld. I also liked hownyou can play minigames while waiting for matchmaking. The new mode they showed looked very promising as well. I don't care I have to wait a bit longer for some of the extra content. It's free and it's coming throughout the summer, so I expect we won't have to wait long ,and can expect new additions frequently. A

Just turf war, splat zone and single player mode will keep me interested until more content is added.

"its different" is not a valid argument.

I already explained myself, explaining the difference between community growth and player growth in a multiplayer vs singleplayer setting, but you chose to ignore it.
