OT: The problem with this sexualization of younger characters is that minimum age consent is different from country to country.

Law of consent doesn't really apply to animated characters though...

Yeah i know but the OT is talking about the moral issue behind it.

Age of consent is to protect children...animated characters don't need protecting.

PS: I don't mean to be jumping on you specifically, I just wanted to make the point that I don't understand the logic behind policing animations.

No outsourced studios is going to have the authority to make game content decisions. They just do the task they're contracted to do. Nintendo's name is the putting the title outside of Japan, so any decision made was done with their approval. Really, there are hardly any games that Nintendo publishes that require (and really, none of these games required any sort of altering) their response. It's mostly an Nintendo of America thing, as most NoE go through just fine. I know that they were asked to release Senran Kagura digital only. Nintendo just runs things differently.

I'm not sure where this is going at this point, but I'm willing to wager that Treehouse will not alter the outfit designs in Xenoblade X or change Lynlee's age by more than... two years.

This made me laugh.

We shall see what happens. It wouldn't be overly surprising.

In regards to cultural relativism, etc. I think that people forget we're talking about a very niche game with a small target audience. This game will sell at most 200k in Japan? While far more than other games that get criticized, it's not like this game is an accepted piece of culture. Even if a society is more open to certain elements, it's not like it's a societal norm to be playing niche JRPGs.

Nude =/= lewd.  I think there is a big difference between simple nudity and the obvious sexualization of young looking characters (male or female).

Putting a revealing outfit of a character in the game is no more "obvious sexualization" than showing a character's genitals. The "sexualization" of the character -- determined by camera angles, focus, lingering -- is in the hands of the player.

If you're just playing the game normally, you'll mostly see Lyn from behind, and her weapon is so large that it obscures almost her entire body. During cutscenes the camera focuses mostly on her face or on her general 'front' with no more emphasis given to her breasts than to the rest of her. There is nothing lewd about a bikini unless the player wants there to be.

Nah, it shouldn't. If a developer is confortable sexualizing its underaged characters, then by all means, go with it. If someone is offended, then don't purchase the game.

100% Agreed!

Anything below 16ish is a no-zone for me, personally. I think if it fits the character and she is of age, that's perfectly fine, there are very promiscuous people out there and they like to show it. I don't think its a rampart problem outside of Japan and their schoolgirl craze though. As for the poll, there is nothing wrong with the system in place of changing ages based on region so it gets my vote.
