for those who have played both Wii and New 3DS versions, which is better? Graphics? Controls? I want to see what this game is all about because all I hear is great things about it.

Hey, we're at the same point in the game! I'm really enjoying myself too. I thought it was a bit overwhelming at first with all of the tutorial text but now that I'm past that, it's so much fun to just go in and explore and battle enemies. Really looking forward to playing more of it (and hopefully beating it before XCX comes out).

It took me a little over 200 hours to 100 percent the game, if that helps (I tend to play much slower and more thorough than most though).

A friend of mine said that it takes something over 80 hours to finish the main story.

Also, I'm learning a lot reading this thread. Just make sure to avoid spoilers, guys.

Want more affinity tricks?

If you are in a town to pick up sidequests, make the lead character someone who you don't like in your party. The lead character engages in random conversations with the other party members while accepting sidequests, which either nets two or four hearts. This also works when you return to a named NPC to confirm the completion of a sidequest.

If you are fighting enemies and have filled up all three blue bars, execute a team attack for the final blow. Your three active party members will gain one heart between each of them (so three hearts total) while the team attack ends quickly (only one strike needed) and nets you one blue bar for killing an enemy with a team attack. So if you engage in another battle soon afterwards, it's often possible to rinse and repeat this tactic. This is something that really adds up over time, even though it seems kinda pointless.

If your allies in battle show a sad face on their HP information (happens frequently, especially against more powerful enemies), run over to them and motivate them. Likewise, do the same when they got knocked down or paralyzed. The button prompt that appears every now and then during battles nets three hearts for two affinity links if you hit it perfectly (so if Reyn has dodged an attack in a Shulk/Reyn/Sharla party, Shulk+Reyn and Reyn+Sharla improve), or one heart for two affinity links if you are little bit too late.

The game is long, but it also takes a long time to max out all affinity links between your party members. While I already mentioned an easy late-game trick to raise affinity, it doesn't hurt to keep the above things in mind.

Semi-spoiler of  the gameplay variety, not the story kind:

There's an even easier and haxier way to raise affinity than that. I can't remember their names, but their are two unique monsters that allow you to max affinity in minutes. One of them puts a character to sleep every time it is hit, and another lowers morale every time, so all you have to do is form a party of characters you want to make good friends, load the CPU characters up with weak or unoffensive skills, and let them keep auto-attacking the UM so you can keep running up to them and waking them up/encouraging. You can go from basically no affinity to max in around 15 minutes. The only drawback is that you have to wait until close to the end of the game, because these monsters are somewhat strong.

One of them is located on the far end of the Eryth Sea.

Some years ago, I was a huge fan of RPGs. I love games like Final Fantasy IV, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Breath of Fire 2, etc. But in the last 3 or 4 years, I haven't played a single game of this genre (Except South Park: The Stick of Truth, but mainly because of the humour).

I've tried games like Final Fantasy X (Didn't liked it) and Final Fantasy XII (Good gameplay, but didn't went very far). I don't know why, but I've got tired of RPGs. Until last week, when I started Xenoblade Chronicles.

My save has something around 8 hours. I'm up to Colony 6, with some sidequests cleared in the way. I'm in love with everything in this game. The plot looks great so far, the soundtrack is beautiful, and characters like Shulk and Dunban are awesome. Also I really like how the game lets you explore the vast world while you get experience from it.

The battles are very fast and breathtaking, even when you are fighting a regular enemy in the field. Of course, the boss battles are way more exciting though. I've had a bit of trouble learning some of the battle and system mechanics, but overall, it's nothing very hard.

I'm really glad that I found some time and motivation to start Xenoblade Chronicles. It's not only one an awesome RPG, but it's also one of the best games I've played in the last years.

I think your experience is much the same as mine. I loved classic RPG's like FF4, and this is the first game in a decade that has captured that spirit.  Mixed with modern advances, it's a masterpiece.  And yes, it only gets better.

This game is epic ,i still have a way to go myself. finding the time is hard but i know i will get there, not since Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast has such a game grabbed me. It truly is the Wii's swansong.. I read somewhere it has around 85 hours of game play. That's Huge..

I've been enjoying it myself. My only difference in experience is that I find those normal battles very boring. Normal enemies have way too much health and they take too long to kill. That has lead to some duller beginning along with the very bad pacing once you first get to explore the Colony.

Game is more enjoyable once you get out of that area.

Well. I love this game, now. I don't know why but sometimes when people gush over a game, I get frustrated waiting for it to get to the good part. Trying it again with lower expectations, I'm enjoying it wrote a bit.

I'm not too big on the story of this game, but I like how you can explore freely and listen to the music without worrying too much about all the drama.

The game is very laid back like that.

I've enjoyed that part quite a bit as well. While they do kinda flood you with side quests, they're just that. Side quests, and you're able to take things at whatever progression you desire. Non-boss battles kinda lend itself to that too imo.
