Did it peak in 2014?

Yes 157 63.05%

No 92 36.95%

Total:249

Nope. I think 2016 will be its peak year.

If we break it down, where is X1 down YOY? Is it on a weekly basis from jan to now or is it just following the release of Titanfall in march? March and September were always potential candidates for being down YOY, some may say june because thats when Kinect was unbundled but I think the summer software releases will compensate. Halo 5's launch week alone will compensate for the current deficit + the one we might see in september, beyond that jan+feb showed that X1's general baseline is up outside of big release weeks.

Games are the number one sellers of hardware so I think thats where we need to pay attention. COD potentially being next gen exclusive would be a biggie. Include the fact that every other fall title: Assassins Creed Victory, Devision, Battlefront, Mad Max, Just Cause, Hitman, Rainbow 6 are already confirmed next gen exclusives gives me complete confidence in X1 being up YOY. Comparably Assassins Creed Unity was the only next gen only fall title in 2014 and even then last gen had their own version in AC: Rogue.

Are you counting the launch year? I should have said "first full year". That's what I mean for Xbox One too. I got the impression GC peaked in 2002.

No, GC have sold around 2,000,000 in 2002.

If you look the US sales, GC is increase by a very strong +50% in 2003, and even in Japan the sales are rise by a small margin.

GC couldn't have sold only 2m in 2002. You mean 2001? (launch year) or perhaps in some region only?

But OK, I guess sales increased in the US and stayed flat in Japan. We don't know WW though.

As per fiscal years, these are the shipped figures:

3.8m (launch)

5.76m (full year)

5.02m

Then it's all down. Fiscal years don't align perfectly with calendar years, so I guess it's possible it had a very slight increase overall.

I'll give your data the benefit of the doubt, though I don't think it's guaranteed. ;)

Sorry, my bad, i say 2001.

Sales are some like:

2001: 2,200,000 (JP: 920k;  US: 1,23M )

2002: 4,800,000 (JP: 1.03M;  US: 2.35M )

2003: 6,300,000 (JP: 1.04M;  US 3.29M)

If we talk about shipment, well yes, the first year was the peak, but the same for 3DS, the shipment peak was 2011 but according to VGChartz the peak in sales is 2013.

I don't think so. MS can afford to take a hit and if the XB1 starts to do horrible, they have ways to turn that around.

Think one could argue it hasnt had the best start and MS have already taken multiple hits getting it price down just to remain even remotley competitive, how many more hits can they take?

Ps4 is also down YoY in the US and Japan
Did it peak in 2014?

If you answer yourself no, u got your answer for the Xbox One aswell

PS4' hasn't had any official price cuts though. It's a very important factor to take into account. It's basically flat YoY and a price cut will eaily put it above last year's numbers.

Even if Xbox One has another price cut and Halo bundles, those will be competing with last year's cuts to keep up with YoY sales.

This only applies if X1's summer sales are as poor as last years, I think the line up is a lot better.

XBO this summer will sell less than last year, unrless another pricedrop, and even if will happen, i'm not sure if will be up.

Last year XBO have sold some like (important fact):

April: 115,000

May: 77,000 ( pricedrop annunced; Watch_Dogs)

June: 197,000 (pricedrop 100$; E3)

July: 131,000

August: 160,000 (Madden bundle)

September: 284,000 (Destiny; FIFA bundle)

Now, considering that XBO is massive down from March ( 311,000 -----> 233,000 ), i think that some people is gonna to cry if expect a super increase compared to last year...

My prediction by now:

April: 120,000 ( maybe will be up because Mortal Kombat)

May: 110,000 (Of course will be up, bacause the pricedrop annunced of last year, and because The Witcher)

June: 170,000 (Batman and E3 can move some unit, but no way for be up in the pricedrop month)

July: 120,000

August: 140,000 (i predict another Madden bundle, but this time will not huge as last time)

September: not so sure but i seriusly doubt will be at +280,000...

TOT: XBO down April to September.

That is US only, and Globally the situation will probabily even worse, because XBO still cost 400€, and the new countries in September...

The company that bought Minecraft for 2.5 billion dollars? A LOT!

Nah.

Its still doing well in the US, but outside of the US it seems like a losing battle. The PS4 is just way too dominant on those markets now.
So, it all comes down to how satured the US market is and if they can find a way to increase sales outside of the US.

To make this clear I'm talking about early adopters and hardcore gamers to wich these consoles sell to in the first years, before someone thinks to quote me on how these consoles sell millions before saturation and that i'm talking nonsense. Have to say every single bit. :p

Don't you remember how hard the Xbox One cratered last April and May? Apparently you don't, otherwise you wouldn't say "if it can't keep up now". It was so bad about a year ago that the Xbox Empire got bullied by Wii U fans, for god's sake.

Shh! Let them continue. This thread will have a quick necro-bump turnaround.
