Forums - Nintendo - Is It Possible for 3DS to Reach 75mil Lifetime?

If it sells something like 8 million for the rest of this year (it should be up from last year) it will be at around 60 million at the end of the year. That would mean like 15 million for the rest of its life to hit the 75 million mark. I see NX being announced at E3 2016 and the handheld version releasing either holiday 2016 or early 2017, depending on region. That means the 3DS could sell something like 6-10 million in 2016. That will bring it to something like 66 million - 70 million by the release of NX. I expect the 3DS to get a large price-cut on all models and it could possibly sell the 5-9 million it needs after NX releases until its discontinuation (probably early 2018.) I expect its sales to end somewhere between 70 million and 75 million, probably closer to 70 million.

it can. not sure on pricing if 3Ds would have another price cut then it could even reach around 80M.

But Nintendo will most likely release a replacement next year so no :p

I think it will fall just short.

Well 3DS will not stop selling when it will get succeded though...DS sold 13m in 2011-2012-2013 years of 3DS lifetime...

 

What you said I think it's an obstacle for more than 80m+ not for 75m+ sales...

Sounds stupid, but they need MORE games. There aren't nearly enough 3DS games out there. We need more localizations. I can see 70M sure, 75 mil is kinda pushing it.

Not saying it'll hit 75mil, but dont forget hitting next year will be at the earliest 2016 holiday. 50.4mil sold by years end, which means it'll ship for at least 3 more years...

Worst case

2015  6mil (N3ds launched in the west, even if it declined overall shouldnt completely drop)

2016  4mil (3DS Successor releases)     

2017  1mil

2018   200k-400k  Discontinued....

62mil imo is the worst case scenario...

 

I think a better estimate is 

2015  8.5mil

2016  5.5mil

2017  2.5mil

2018  1mil

About 68mil
