Forums - Gaming - Could Wii Fit suck?

on a side note...is price so important? Who would refrain to buy it if Wii Fit sells for $99.99 (pre-tax)
I would and the majority of people I know would.  I mean Wii Fit is cool, but $100 cool?  Hell, there are very few games out there i would every pay $100 for.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

does it even matter if it sucks? based on what we've seen in japan, something tells me it will sell regardless.

^i agree
Wii fit will become an overnight phenomenon and word of mouth will sell millions easily. I think it may even break the 25-30 million mark lifetime (assuming Wii HW sales hit at least 90 million)

I don't think WiiFit is going to take off in either NA or PAL regions. It will sell well, but it won't sustain sales like it does in Japan for a few reasons:

1. The Japanese love that sort of stuff. Quirky non-games are all the rage over there and the Japanese love their fads.
2. WiiFit is targeted toward an entirely casual audience, which is fine. The problem is that the Wii is still supply constrained. The people who will buy this won't be able to find a Wii to actually play it.
3. Those same people don't stand in line to buy a video game console.
4. $350+ is a large buy-in for a pseudo workout machine/rig/thingie.
5. The typical gaming audience doesn't give two shits about this game and won't buy it in significant numbers unless it's insanely fun (which, by most reports, it isn't).

I think some hype will build up around WiiFit and it will sell quite well for a bit and then slowly die off as people realize that finding one of those little white boxes is damned near impossible. Once the hype dies down and the Wii is available, it will be too late.

I could be wrong but I don't see this "game" doing that well in the west.

I think you are wrong.

First of all is not a fad as you call it, because its still selling well in Japan long after its release.

You say no Wii owner will buy this then? Just new owners, too bad, look at SSBB Wii being supply constrained, at it still managed to sell lmost 2mil according to ioi.

Why would they stand in line, if you say its not going to sell well and considering supply will be bigger than in Japan.

And the typical gaming audience is not represented by you. Im a hardcore gamer and will undoubtly buy this.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

A fad can last six months, which is longer than WiiFit has been out in Japan.

I don't even understand your second point. What does SSBB have to do with WiiFit? Brawl is a proven franchise that is massively popular across different demographics.

I don't understand your third point either.

You might buy it but I know plenty of Wii owners with absolutely no intention of buying WiiFit.

Its made by Nintendo, and its gonna get a lot of Hype as well, its too hard to find a first party title made by Nintendo that hasnt sell that well. Check Wii sports, A LOT of people bought Wii for it.

With my third point I was trying to make you see, that if this wont sell well, why would people have to stand in lines?

You say a fad lasts 6 months? Then I could call most PS3 titles fads. They never sell for more than 4 months. The only ones I can recall are Motorstorm, Resistance and Uncharted.

Your definition of fad doesnt make sense.

Yeah, a lot of people bought a Wii for Wii Sports. Wii Sports is brilliant fun for up to four people at once. The same cannot be said for WiiFit.

I mentioned that the Wii's supply constraint will work against this title. It's hard to build up momentum for a title when people still can't find the console. It's doubly hard to build momentum when that title is squarely aimed at the casual demographic.

I said "fads can last six months", not "fads last six months". Amazing what one little word can do for a sentence.

The Pet Rock, Hypercolor shirts, Beany Babies, and Cabbage Patch dolls say "hi". All of those were massively popular for up to a year before fading into obscurity.
