My favourite Final Fantasy of all time. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

Will you be doing all the side quest?

*Tip: Make Zidane constantly steal the crap out of every boss battle you encounter until the bosses carry nothing left.

I'll probably do everything I come across.

Also, yeah, I've beeb already stealing from every enemy xD

Got a better sword from Baku.

Nice you're off to a good start.

Reading comments on this thread makes me want to replay the game again xD

If you have a friend or partner you can play 2 players somewhere in the options menu (well the 2nd player can only command characters you want them to control during battle and thats it really)

IX is my least favorite of the three for PS1, but not by much. And it is a fantastic game.
After replaying it again around a year ago, comparing it to todays rpg's, I could especially tell what a great game it is.
It really has a distinct feel to it, as you mentioned. The battle system is good, though pretty slow compared to other FF games, so I would suggest cranking up the ATB speed to max in Options.
Also, remember to steal, steal and always steal, when you fight bosses. That's basically the challenge of the game. Steal all their stuff before they kill you. They pretty much always have something useful to steal.

Oh and there's a way to get boots with Auto Haste on Disc 1. They are very very useful.

In case you consider it a sppoiler, I'll put it in spoiler tags.
At the end of Disc 1 when you're in Alexandria castle, a timer will start counting down at one point. When it does, you can visit a library or something like that, where one of the bookshelfs have a boss that looks like a book. You can steal the boots from him. Or maybe he drops them, I can't recall.

The running shoes are a drop. The rare steal from the Tantarian is Demon's Mail, but it has a ridiculously low steal rate. It is definitely not worth spending the time because from my personal experience, even after an hour, the Tantarian still holds onto that piece of armor extremely tight. *shakes fist*

I'm very glad to see that you're enjoying IX so far.

IX is my second favorite Final Fantasy after VI. It is much better than VII and VIII in my opinion, a little bit better than IV and X, much better than XII, I-III, and V. Never finished XIII, but will do so when I can get the Steam release cheap (sold my XIII PS3 copy long ago.)

6 I'll keep to play in another time, but also always heard a lot of positive feedback from it.

Yeah, six was one of the best SNES RPGs along with Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, and a few others I'm probably forgetting. I definitely recommend it. Was hoping we would have gotten a 3D handheld remake by now, to be honest. Maybe next generation. :)

My favorite game of all time, so I do hope you enjoy. It's very impactful.

How can a game with such horrible graphics be your favourite game of all time?
