Totally different scenario. Xbox is no where near as strong of a brand, so far it has one very successful console which was outsold by every PS ever. (except Vita)

The PS3 was always winning in Japan and quickly covered ground everywhere else, selling better month to month than the 360 did at a fairly early point. Also, the 360 dealt with a crippling hardware issue, forcing many over to the other side and rendering many of the sales of 360 inactive. And then there was the free online play, complimented by an optional plan to get free games every week (at the time). Add onto that the 360's head start, and you have all the reasons the PS4 managed to beat 360 WW before the end of the generation.

This time is different. XB1 started this generation with a handicap by upsetting it's users at E3. XB1 and PS4 launched almost simultaneously, with PS4 dominating from the start. XB1 has slashed prices over and over, but it still hasn't landed them a SINGLE world wide victory over PS4, even when it was $50 cheaper in its home turf. Japanese still avoid Xbox, and the only countries that buy them with any degree of consistency is the US and UK, where it's still mostly a victory for Sony.

The PS4 is this generation's go-to console. That's why it outsells both Wii U and XB1 combined on a weekly basis.
