Forums - Gaming - Graphics Not Among the Top Reasons People Buy Games, New Report Says

I think in most of those cases people are buying the games because they want the game...if they didn't want the game in the first place, it doesn't really matter how much it costs.

Even then, I think that most of that makes up an extremely small portion of the survey.

Basically I'm just saying that the survey is inherently flawed in the way its questions are structured and I do not feel that it is representative of much of anything.

Also, who buys a game because of its ESRB rating? That doesn't even make sense

EDIT: I guess there were some wires crossed as the Title of the thread and title of the graph say different things. It makes more sense when you look at the graph title, but I still call bullshit

That's a naive point of view. A lot of games are bought on Steam simply because people think that it's too good of a deal to pass up. The result is that collections of Steam games include a lot of unwanted and unplayed titles. Additionally, what do you think is the number one reason for a notorious pirate to buy a video game? It can only be price; if it's so low that the game might as well be bought. Plus there are also people who think that no video game is worth paying for (non-pirates who are content with free to play games), so in the hypothetical scenario that they would have to buy a game, they would make price the highest priority.

Buying a game because it's rated M for mature may seem idiotic to you, but that doesn't invalidate the existence of idiots.

I just think the percentages are way off. Using the userbase that the ESA used for all its other stats, for 2% of people to be buying a game simply due to its rating doesn't make sense

I did acknowledge that I misunderstood this thread though. I thought that the graphy was "Reasons why people buy games" (as the thread title implied) and not "Factors that contibute to people buying games". It actually makes sense when you look at them as factors and not reasons.

As is, I think that this information is useless in the context of the argument the OP brought up because of the userbase the ESA always uses...

Why dont they have a catagory for "game play style"?

I bet many people buy games based on what they feel like playing.
Ei. they want to play a platformer, they dont go out and buy a shooter ect.

5% buy games for educational value? wtf.... just no.
Reputation of publisher is only at 2% ??? what..... just...
advertising only 1% ? that sounds way to low as well.

Not sure if I believe all these numbers.

but the games are SOO fuckn cheap... last week i buyed 10 games for 3$ or so and i didnt wanted 9 of the games, but the bundle was way cheaper than the 1 game i wanted to test(guns of icarus is fun so it was a good buy).  and this weak i will buy 10 games for 4,90$ and just want 1 of em...

https://www.humblebundle.com/  just tooooo cheap.

and i tond thing the M rating is the important rating, parents buy games for children and want to make sure the game is kid friendly...

Why is price such a factor? I thought other incentives, such as pub/dev rep. would be higher. Quite interesting this graph is.

I already explained my misunderstanding...it makes much more sense as a "factor" than a "reason".

Pfft, year right. Some games today play like shit but look flawless and they sell a crap ton. Especially in America where we are easily amazed and have little room for outside thinking. Man, I hate our demographic.

Your subjective opinion of course.

I wouldn't say it any other way. Opinion.
