The Call of Duty franchise is a massive hit on almost every platform that it launches on. However, Nintendo systems have traditionally been one of the lowest performing releases for the hit series. The last game to be featured on a Nintendo console was 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts with Advanced Warfare skipping the Wii U entirely. On the handheld front, Call of Duty has never debuted on the 3DS, with the last game hitting the DS in 2009 in the form of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized. This could be in for a change though, as one NeoGaf user pointed out that some updates to callofduty.com indicate a renewed relationship.

In the area of the site where you are able to link your account to other services, such as Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam, a new option has appeared allowing you to link to a Nintendo Network ID account. This change seems to have happened in the last few weeks, hinting at a possible new game release for a Nintendo platform. Since NNIDs are used across the Wii U and 3DS, there is no way to know which system could be getting what game. Of course, with the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 many speculate that this is what will come to Wii U. Alternatively, Activision could be looking at a 3DS release, as that is a much more viable platform at the moment.

With Advanced Warfare skipping both systems it seems odd to dip back into the Nintendo ecosystem. Without confirmation from Activision we can only speculate though, and there seems to be something in the pipeline for Nintendo coming, at the very least.

Why would CoD go to the 3DS? I mean, CoD DS barely sold a million (in the most popular console of the generation) and CoD Vita was pannedat release (it sold well, though). It would be easier to make a WiiU CoD with an old engine rather than the risk of making a whole new CoD with an engine compatible with the 3DS.

Black Ops 3 is impossible on 3DS.

More likely for Wii U, knowing Treyarch's history with the platform and Nintendo in general.

If xenoblade can run on the N3DS then I'm pretty sure a call of duty game can run on the N3DS as well, especially when you consider the fact that call of duty games have ran on the original DS. sooo what's your point?

Not if made by an entirely seperate team like black ops on wii. Would turn out horrendous though, will probably look like an N64 game lol

Maybe Nintendo is doing some outreach to certain devs to try and soothe things over ahead of the NX generation. They wouldn't necessarily have to "pay" for anything as many people suggest, it could be as simple as waiving licensing fees on the game. Since it likely wouldn't sell a ton anyway, but Nintendo would want it to be able to say to their fans that at least they tried with one of the bigger third party IP.

Though I wouldn't get too carried away ... last year people said COD was coming to Wii U because of Wii U was listed on the website database or something.
