Double This

Mario was given a "weapon" and toon Link made his first debut. It was Nintendo's second 3D console and it's best titles were very experimental, including Eternal Darkness and RE 4 for the time. Experimentation was the signature of the 6th generation after all. However I wouldn't have agreed with this point of view without a retrospective of Nintendo's game design choices.

every nintendo console is experimental :p

Software innovation is better than hardware innovation in my opinion.

I would say it is, seeing as it spawned the titles the OP listed as well as things like Mario Strikers and a few other sports games which put a nice spin on the genre. You also had software compatibility with your GBA and things like that which was pretty neat and still sort of exists today with the 3DS being able to be used as a controller in Smash4.
3rd party wise there was an actual JRPG style Megaman game as well as FF Crystal Chronicles. Lost Kingdoms by From Software was a pretty neat blend of card battles and action RPG mechanics. Viewtful Joe was a solid game as well as Billy Hatcher if you ignore how kiddie it was.
Nintendo's little purple cube was and still is my all time favorite console. Long live the 6th gen, the last great console generation!

You forgot Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. That's about as experimental as you can get.

The Wii had Wii Sports and Skyward Sword, those alone put it above the Gamecube in terms of innovation and how can the Gamecube be the best Nintendo console when the Super Nintendo exists.

Right. Super Nintendo and Gamecube are the best Nintendo consoles.
