I would say it is, seeing as it spawned the titles the OP listed as well as things like Mario Strikers and a few other sports games which put a nice spin on the genre. You also had software compatibility with your GBA and things like that which was pretty neat and still sort of exists today with the 3DS being able to be used as a controller in Smash4.

3rd party wise there was an actual JRPG style Megaman game as well as FF Crystal Chronicles. Lost Kingdoms by From Software was a pretty neat blend of card battles and action RPG mechanics. Viewtful Joe was a solid game as well as Billy Hatcher if you ignore how kiddie it was.

Nintendo's little purple cube was and still is my all time favorite console. Long live the 6th gen, the last great console generation!
