Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Is Hurtin' In Japan, NX Really Needs To Be Out Sooner Than Later

Hes only stating facts. No need to get so worked up. Whatever NX is, it has to come out soon.

I am worked up cause he been chanting the same crap for weeks now. Consoles need games to sell that is a fact.

Unless Nintendo decided in 2014 that Wii U is a failure they will simple have sweet F all games ready for the launch of NX if it comes in 2016.

Part of Wii U's problem with consumers is that it doesn't have enough games. Releasing a new turd to hide and old one isn't going to magically make people buy it without some sort of incentive.

Part? it's the only problem.

The great irony in it all is that Japan was the one region where the most people were sure the Wii U had a chance at winning. I even recall someone saying that "Japan is the gaming capital of the world and is showing us what is to come in the rest of the world; keep your eye on Japan."

So far, it's winning, unless you want to include handhelds.

Really? Ur going to use JohnLucas to generalize an entire group?

No, just using a silly quote to show that it is silly. The vast majority of Nintendo fans disagree with 95% of what he says anyway, so that would be a misplaced attempt at any rate.

There really were quite a few users who were adamant that the Wii U would win Japan though, easily so. I have to admit that I didn't expect the PS4 to do quite as well as it is right now, and I never imagined that any one console would "win" by a large margin, that could be wrong. But I still don't think anyone will come close to the 10 million mark in Japan in the 8th gen.

Probably a lot fewer who think so now, but I noticed some still do. A couple of weeks ago, some people (only recall MateriaBlade by name) seemed to still think that WiiU will end up ahead of PS4 in Japan, in spite of the current WiiU baseline and the boost PS4 seems to get from just a few Japanese titles. Makes me wonder what they base their opinions on, as they rarely give their reasoning.
Personally I think PS4's Japan lifetime sales will be easier to figure out once the PS4 Slim (price cut) hits Japan, since there's bound to be a lot more Japanese attractive games on the market by the time it hits a more lucrative price for a market that has become more hesitant on shelling out a lot of money on consoles.

"just a few" japanese titles? ps4 has just received a lot of games over the past weeks, including DQ heroes. A boost was expected. it's the post boost baseline that matters.

Anyone else think this is a knee jerk reaction to spread FUD?

I think portable NX will launch in 2016.

Console NX variant in 2017.

Game development is already well underway too I would guess.

However, I think people are going to have to reframe the way they look at hardware, they will based on a central NX network that unifies everything, and then the hardware will simply just be up to the consumer as to which flavor of hardware you want.

More similar to iOS/Steam than the dated 1980s model of game consoles.

You really are starting to sound like a broken record. I can see why Rol got pissed of and risked a ban.

What will having new hardware released early solve? That alone is not enough.

Nintendo needs to first have enough games in development for the next console launch window without delays to get the console of two a flying start, at least two years of dev time to have decent games and 10 games in the first 3 month window. They also need to get more studios to become sell sufficient covering all genres or to moneyhat developers for games. They need to get to a point were there is at least 3 good games coming out each month.

Without games the console is just gonna end up another Wii U with even more pissed of gamers who bought the console.

They could push games to the next console. Nintendo tends to do that often: Super Paper Mario started as a GameCube game, Pikmin 3 as a Wii title, Twilight Princess ended launching first on Wii, etc. Nintendo could be pushing Zelda, Retro's next project, Next Level next game, Koizumi's next game (Mario team), etc.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo lives from the air and are going to wait until sales reach the bottom of zero units in 2017 to release a new hardware.

To that point in hindsight now I think it's cleary that Nintendo let the Wii and DS generation go on for far too long.

Wii U should've launched in 2011, 3DS should've launched in 2010 and they should have been more prepared. They made so much money off the Wii/DS, they should have greenlit 3-4 additional projects for both launch windows from outside devs. If you end up with too many games so what? Just spread out the releases in that case.

For the people banging the drum about how longer generations are better, did any of you actually enjoy the Wii's last year? 12 months of crap, except Xenoblade which should have been released worldwide in 2010 or 2011 at the latest.

By waiting so long they allowed themselves to lose all momentum from the previous cycle.

If NX is a portable, it needs to be out by holiday 2016. 3DS will be out for more than 5 years, so I believe no one will be pissed about that. If it's a hybrid, it'll be ok to launch on that timeframe too (I believe).

And I believe it's not that hard for it to achieve a great success... like, really, Nintendo portables sell pretty well even today, even with the marketing mistakes and misconceptions of the 3DS. If they choose an easy understanding name, market it extensively, and get at least 2 big AAA exclusives for launch (like Mario Kart 9 + Metroid Prime 4), then I can't see it failing.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
