See, when you grow up in a country where all foreign movies and series are subbed, you are trained not to split attention between subs and action. It simply becomes natural, in a way that even the elderly or the poorly educated are able to watch their favorite shows without much effort.

And it was always damn funny to watch a well-known actor or actress "speak" Italian or German, it felt so fake (even though both do great dubs). And I think the Polish system was the worst, in which one narrator simply read the entire text, with the original voice in the background, that was hilarious.

 

So, for me, subs are the only way to go when it comes to anime.

But, screw the Funimation dicks, they IP region block their shows, so I cannot pay them to watch even if I wanted to. Thankfully, any anime they have is on torrents, so their loss, my gain.

A lot of the translation issues come across in Subs too but at least everything else is untouched, thankfully I can just watch raws so I don't have to deal with any of it, but that said, I much care for dubs, at all.

youre a native speaker and speak english as well, we take these sacrefices to feel like a native speaker which is better expenrience

What is the difference? Both are in a foreign language, and both are subtitled. 

It's not like anime is watched by little children that cannot read. Dora the Explorer and Teletubbies are dubbed, of course.

The Simpsons and Futurama are subbed. Now you try to imagine the unique voices of Homer Simpson, Mr. Burns or Bender spoken in Italian or German, and you'll get an idea why dubbing is a horrible thing for everybody except the illiterate. You lose an integral part of art that way.

Also only a few dubbers are actually good


I have the stance I like to watch anything in its original language.  I have got to the point where I put subtitles on everything, even English language, simply because I have become hard wired to read them and helps me process what is going on better.

Dubbed often times just gets rid of the reading part.

Luckily I enjoy both dubbed and subbed so it hardly matters to me.

OT: Good to see more things coming to Consoles/ PS4 atm.


It also get rid of the acting part.

Here is the difference.

Sticking to the "artistic" integrity viewpoint denies the reality that dubs can achieve their own equally worthy artistic merit (even if it is a different interpretation), or in some cases even improve on the original Japanese voice work. Two more examples of this, Hellsing and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

To get more technical: Dubbing becomes an economic reality if anime is to be legally available in the States or aired on American TV, and around the world. Those who doesn’t have access to anime through other means must decide for them self whether some harm to the "artistic" integrity of the original series is acceptable for the right to see it at all.

Anime is first and foremost a commercial product.

If you want to compare dub live action tv shows. The Young and The Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful. I don't watch those shows but they've been on tv for more than a decade so they must be doing something right.

Some dubs I enjoy better than the originals.

Sgt Frog dub is fantastic. (It's different than the original, but intentionally so)
Ghost Stories (Best dub ever, the original was awful the dub is pure comedy gold)

I can go on. I think both have their merits. This is still a great service with subtitle options. Though Crunchy Roll is superior for sub lovers.

I like watching dub for a lot of things. And I can see the emotion and actors do great things. And in some animes I love dub I can see sub do better at times while dub can do the same. Todd Haberkorn at points is a better Natsu than the sub VA. But I like animes enough to watch it in sub and dub. So I have no complaints either way. Travis Willingham does a fantastic Roy Mustang in FMA.
