Forums - Sony - Funimation Streaming Service is now on PS4 (Dubbed Anime Heaven)

I'd rather deal with commercials with subbed anime on Hulu than watch commercial-free dubbed. Not trying to be cool, just the way it is.

Dubbed anime.. Eww.

most dubbed VA's are terrible and super-weeabooy

Problem i got with the subbed argument is that it many times butchers the anime as much as dubbed.

Dubbed often times just gets rid of the reading part.

Luckily I enjoy both dubbed and subbed so it hardly matters to me.

OT: Good to see more things coming to Consoles/ PS4 atm.

DBZ and Cowboy Bebop are pretty much the only anime where the english dub is vastly superior to sub.

meh...I like to fully concentrate on the imagery rather than having to split attention towards the subtitles at the bottom of the screen for a more immersive experience, otherwise I might as well watch it in Spanish with subs.

Death Note, and Bleach are some two examples I can think of that are also done nicely.

But..but.. I've learned a few Japanese words and phrases from watching subs.

See, when you grow up in a country where all foreign movies and series are subbed, you are trained not to split attention between subs and action. It simply becomes natural, in a way that even the elderly or the poorly educated are able to watch their favorite shows without much effort.

And it was always damn funny to watch a well-known actor or actress "speak" Italian or German, it felt so fake (even though both do great dubs). And I think the Polish system was the worst, in which one narrator simply read the entire text, with the original voice in the background, that was hilarious.

So, for me, subs are the only way to go when it comes to anime.

But, screw the Funimation dicks, they IP region block their shows, so I cannot pay them to watch even if I wanted to. Thankfully, any anime they have is on torrents, so their loss, my gain.

DUB!?

Guess I'm the only guy here that finds Japanese VA distracting and weird.
Dubbed > subbed. I actually hate having to read when watching anime, especially when there's a lot going on.

Edit - I think part of the reason is because I don't find the male voices masculine enough in a lot of cases for who they're trying to portray. The women sound fairly shrill like they do in america so that's chill lol.

my issues with dubbed:

- Over simplification of what is being said because they cant fit in enough to match the original timing
- Translation errors or completely omitting native Japanese mannerisms
- Along with the above to comes trying to force the same emotion with different words, usually fails.
- Try-hard VA's over-acting and ruining the mood/tone.
- Leftover Japanese words and the american verbalization of them.

A lot of the translation issues come across in Subs too but at least everything else is untouched, thankfully I can just watch raws so I don't have to deal with any of it, but that said, I much care for dubs, at all.

Dubs are for newbs! #submasterrace
