Majora's Mask was released in 2000 for the N64, and has sold over 3 million copies LFT

A big reason it suffered low sales (low for Zelda standards) was because it was released at the very end of the N64's life span, and right before the GC came out

But what if it was a launch title for Gamecube? What do you think it would have sold LFT if it was a GC launch title? I think it would have had a big impact on GC sales as well, it could have been a HUGE system seller

What about you?

GC sold 23,000,000 and not 22,000,000.

Probably would have sold worse. It wasn't exactly received well.

Huh. I don't know about the reception but Rol's post seems valid enough, but the game was released late into the N64's life cycle as the last big title from Nintendo for the already existing install base, which has happened a lot when the new generation was on the horizon.

It's not like the game wasn't released on the GC though.

I don't know if given the time frame they could do something with enough of a visual improvement for that game to warrant delaying it a full year for another system.

A Majora's Mask with the visuals of Wind Waker would have been awesome and trippy, but most likely would would have gotten something along the lines of Star Fox Adventures, which also began life as a N64 game. Even as a launch title, especially against Melee, I don't think many would have been all that receptive to it.

No, I like that they released it in 2 years... I wish they would do that more often.

Would have definitely sold more, no doubt, BUT would not have been a GC launch title.

Was released in 64 because it used the same assets as Ocarina of Time, and as such was able to be released fairly quickly. If it was a GC title it would have taken another 2-3 years to make.

Nope. Gamecube already have 2 Zelda's. Nintendo 64 should also have 2 Zelda's.

I remember reading that GCN was ready to launch much earlier than it did. They basically held it back because N64 was having a decent 99/2000 in terms of sales.

In hindsight making MM would have definitely been a better move. Even Perfect Dark and a few others would have benefitted the GCN. Capcom did it with Resi Zero.

I sold the way it did cause it was not what people wanted...being GC launch title would not have changed that.
