I think OP might have a point here; I have also said that I believe we'll see a new home console in late 2016, there is zero logic in keeping grinding gears that are stuck (Wii U) when you can make a jump and create a new opportunity. Why allow yourself to become an obscure blimp on the home console radar by forcing the Wii U to be your focus for several more years?
I just wrote in another thread that it makes more sense to upset the small userbase of the Wii U and gain a chance at actually becoming a factor in the market again than to fade to nothing and lose all potential customers; fans should not be cheering for Nintendo to continue sitting in the sinkhole.
It is indeed interesting that there is no Zelda footage for E3; I can't imagine why a Zelda title, regardless of ambition, would require dev time in the same region as GTA V, which is easily the most ambitious title released in the 7th gen. If this were actually so, it would mean that either; Nintendo are truly incompetent at making HD games, or they will produce a game with such a budget and aspiration that it will be utterly wasted on their weakest performing console ever.
It is more logical that they are pushing it back to offer it along with a new hope in the form of hardware that has actual potential.
Paired with the recent mobile decision, the outright announcement that a new platform is actually underway, great lack of news regarding Wii U and 3DS must-have software for the foreseeable future and not even a Direct for some time; the writing is thick and clear on the wall and Nintendo are obviously ready to move on, and gamers should just as well prepare for them to do so and be thankful that they are making efforts to salvage the wreck and look to the horizon rather than sink to the bottom out of principles insisted by die-hard fans.
