No, I don't consider it a proper 3D Mario game. It's an isometric platformer. You move on a fixed, isometric grid in a fixed, isometric map. Just because it uses 3D polygons doesn't mean it's a 3D platformer, just like NSMBU using 3D polygons doesn't suddenly make it a 3D platformer.


You move in 3D and it uses 3D models... its a 3D game. Your mis-defining of it is akin to people calling the Wii sixth gen or the Wii-U seventh gen.

 

 

Granted I personally think its the best Mario game since Super Mario World on the SNES but my love for it is unlikely to have me hallucinating an extra-axis on which the game is played...
