Forums - Nintendo - SO, what will be the Wii U's Big Holiday/End of Year Game?

It'll be either Star Fox or Xenoblade for sure. Maybe even both, there is a huge incentive to have a good holiday lineup. So many people buy consoles over that period. It's probably worth sacrificing an August release for!

Doesn't have to be just one. they could release 2 or 3 out of paper mario, animal crossing, metroid, f-zero... in november + bundles.

How about Monster Hunter 4? Would indicate to Capcom what they want from them in future.

HOW ABOUT HD Remakes of Metroid 1,2 and Super Metroid in a similar fashion to Mario Maker? If you notice anything about Nintendo, their ideas often get clues dropped in previous titles.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

And counting future titles, which ones are you at this point sure you'll get? Unless you already counted those.

Um......Zelda and Star Fox would make six. Now that I think about it there are games from the Wii that should be downloadable as I said. I need to play Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 as I only played half of one.

Don't ignore DKC: TF just because it's a 2D platformer. It's much better than 3D World imo.

It's the PR crap they keep saying all the time. That they start working on their next console the moment they release the current one. Considering how consoles currently are pretty much off-the-shelf parts, it's clearly BS, but that's what they always say. I guess they mean working on some innovations like motion controls/Morpheus/Kinect, etc.

Do you really think designing a dedicated games console is as simple as picking up some pieces, sticking them together, and starting to code? It's not just about developing the parts; it's about selecting the right balance of components - getting the appropriate memory speed to suit the CPU speed while avoiding excessive costs. It's about investigations into options such as backwards compatibility, various controller communication techniques, upcoming technologies, etc. And it's about communicating with third parties and their own first-party game studios to determine appropriate specs. It's about investigating new cpu/gpu functions that might give them an extra edge. And they also need to try to minimise the failure rates of components, which adds yet another factor. And we haven't yet gotten into ergonomics, case design, etc.

They all spend a lot of time trying to optimise their system to give the best bang for their buck. It's not just about innovations, it's also about overall design. And truth be told, they start working on the next console before the previous one releases.

I honestly believe the parts that are going to be used in the next console aren't even close to entering the market. Talking to 3rd parties about the specs of next-gen consoles now is pointless.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I didn't say they'd already be talking with third parties about the specs. I said that's part of the process. They aren't going to be talking with the third parties about specs until they've already got some solid ideas on all fronts. Right now, they're probably talking with the hardware manufacturing companies - Intel, Nvidia, etc. Both to perhaps feed ideas to those companies for the components, and to get ideas of where those companies are going and expected timeframes for various products.

They're probably well past that stage, I don't think people realize how much lead time you need for a new hardware platform these days.

It's not like ordering a pizza, generally speaking you should have a fairly good idea of your hardware vendors and hardware architecture 3 years ahead of launch.

Even historically ... Nintendo inked the deal for the N64 SGI chip in August 1993 ... basically three years ahead of its launch and they still only managed to have 2 games ready for launch (lol).

I think AMD and ARM are Nintendo's go to component guys next time out too and they already have more or less an good idea of what Nintendo wants.

I wouldn't be surprised honestly if whatever "NX" is is already up, running, and playable at Nintendo's R&D as I type this right now with game development in its primary phases.

C'mon people Star Fox is the game we all know this. They have been working on this Star fox since the Wii era it s going to be released around then expect a big E3 on it. Splatoon and Yoshis Wooly World in the summer giving it the momentum Mario Maker and Xenoblade to keep it going, then boom StarFox. Sprinkle in some other games 2015 = their best year

Yeah probably it will be something like this ...

May - Splatoon
June - Yoshi's Wooly World (EU)
July - Yoshi's Wooly World (NA and JPN)
August - Fatal Frame V (NA and EU); Project: Giant Robot (?)
September - Mario Maker
October - Xenoblade X (NA and EU)
November - Star Fox U
December - Devil's Third

Maybe Project: Giant Robot/Guard gets thrown in there too. Add in maybe Calladooty BLOPS3 as something Nintendo maybe phoned in as a favor to Activision to beef up their November a little bit more.
