Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: GTA V was once prototyped for Wii U

At the very least it would be on an audience that didn't already have acess to the game, unlike the majority of ps4/x1 owners.

So, using the same logic, why did Ghosts on PS4 and XBO outsell the Wii U version by about 12x and 9.5x respectively?  Why should GTA be massively different?

For starters, the games are massively different.

I'd think a GTAV Wii U would sell as much as CoD BO2.

that low?!

So is there more to your argument?  GTA being a different game from Call of Duty is hardly evidence that a Wii U port would sell so well that it'd make more sense than a PS4/XBO one.  GTAV PS4 has sold quite a bit more than ANY Wii U game.

If Wii U released in 2011, even w/o the gamepad, it would have done much better... but the wait until 2012 let the Wii brand die completely. This hurt many 3rd party games that would have been on the console otherwise, esp. a GTA V launch alongside the PS360 versions. Also, had it launched in 2011, it would have allowed a better transition to NX in 2016 (if that move was necessary) rather than almost being forced to rush their next product. The mobile deal now gives Ninty more breathing room, but Pachter and other journalists turned out to be right that Wii U was launched too late.

Yeah.  I just don't think many would purchase GTAV on the Wii U regardless.

I thought GTA Chinatown Wars that was out for the DS would've sold alot being exclusive as well, but it only got around 1.3 million LT and that's with a much larger install base.

Maybe majority of people don't really look to Nintendo for GTA or CoD games.

meanwhile, cod and ac are no evidence whatsoever about how GTA would sell on wii u. and regardless of post release sales, it would still make more sense at wii u. since the game was already at ps360, a ps4/x1 release was bought mostly by people who hold off buying for ps360 or were buying it again.

Huh, interesting.

good news.

when a late port of Rayman Origins does BETTER than the system it was originally released for then something is wrong.

CoD, AC, every other third party multiplatform, every third party exclusive, every first party game.  None of them have managed to sell as well as GTAV PS4.  Pretty sure Rockstar released the PS4/XBO versions to make money, so I don't know why you'd say "regardless of post release sales".  Why should Rockstar ignore the customers who held off buying for the PS3/360 or the ones willing to double dip?  Clearly there were a lot of them.  Would an Ouya release also make more sense than the PS4/XBO versions?

Would it make more sense for Apple to make an updated iPhone exclusive to Burundi because it's an audience that didn't already have access to iPhones?  I mean Americans already had the ability to buy iPhones, so why would Apple want to sell a new one to people who were holding off or wanted to buy another one?
