Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: GTA V was once prototyped for Wii U

Alright a large majority of their target audience is on PS4/XBO. Is that accurate enough? It doesn't change the fact that GTA V on the Wii U wouldn't be anything special in terms of sales, software or hardware. As for porting to those two systems, they were already porting it to PC so it makes complete sense that they'd port it to the newer consoles with some extra additions.

"It doesn't change the fact that GTA V on the Wii U wouldn't be anything special in terms of sales, software or hardware"

How can you possibly say that without any evidence? untill proven otherwise (with actual data), GTAV would have sold a AT LEAST a few millions on wii u if released in 2013 and at least a 1-2m if released in 2014. That's basing on the franchise's appeal and a lower attach rate than on other platforms.

The fact that most third party games haven't sold that well is my evidence. And 1-2 million isn't special relatively speaking compared to what it's doing on other platforms. It's decent numbers for the Wii U, not for GTA.

GTAV was release one year before for ps360. rereleasing on ps4 and x1 is redundant in terms of audience. Besides, it's terribly inaccurate to say the target audience is COMPLETELY on those systems and not on wii u.

So, if you think it would have made more sense to do a Wii U port than PS4/XBO ports, presumably you think the Wii U version would have sold more?

At the very least it would be on an audience that didn't already have acess to the game, unlike the majority of ps4/x1 owners.

So, no evidence? we don't have many examples of third party games on wii u but the results are a mix of good and bad sales, wich happens in all consoles. But the most important point is that GTA V has't released, making it impossible to know how much it would sell.

1-2 million for being a year late and also released on ps4/x1 sounds very good. Would possible get more.

has anyone stopped to think that the whole test thing was just that? a test and they might not have been able to get it working the way they wanted?

You say it's impossible to tell how much it would sell then go on to say it would sell 1-2 million. Where the hell do you get those numbers from? Where's the "evidence" that it would sell even that much?

It doesn't matter anyways since it's not coming to Wii U and I see no point in arguing about imaginary numbers.

It's redundant to port it to a system with the same audience (essentially asking them to buy it twice). You'd at least be expanding your audience with Wii U rather than feeding on your own market.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I guess they felt the audience wasn't worth it. Also, I see it as if you're already porting to PC you might as well just port them to PS4/XBO for easy money. Plus, they added extra features to somewhat differentiate the current and last gen versions.

So, using the same logic, why did Ghosts on PS4 and XBO outsell the Wii U version by about 12x and 9.5x respectively?  Why should GTA be massively different?

I also wrote that. conservative numbers untill proven otherwise. what you can't do is say it would sell badly for no reason and against all odds.

Precisely. And if they managed to sell millions with rereleases for the "same" audience, they would have good prospects on wii u.
