Forums - Sony - Roughly half of Evolution Studios (Driveclub) faces redundancy.

Did the game underperform?

the studios only project was driveclub, and despite a years delay and a heap of extra funding they botched the launch, i think the sales performance is irrelevant here, its simply a case of "why retain the full size of the studio who arent actually doing anything now".

it's nothing new, people are let go after projects wrap or just before fairly often, even when the studio has another game to work on directly after, so this news hitting on a studio that has nothing else is pretty much expected.

you only need the core development team to support and update it, most of the other staff are just dead weight at that point.

Next time maybe making a good game saves their job.

Next time play a game before you criticize. Driveclub has become the best racing game of recent years after the post launch support it got.

65+ people left is still enough for AAA driving games.

How many employees did they have an where can I look it up?

If that's true, they'll go on a hiring spree with the next project cuz +65 people is way too many to just continue service this game.

The game sold almost 1.5 million copies and it is the ultimate graphical for PS4, I think Sony is being a little to harsh for these guys. Studio closes in October 2015 after season pass content is finished I call it. Which is depressing since it is Sony's last studio making relevant arcade racing games. Coulsn't they just fire every single damn person who worked on the last guardian a production team that hasn't produced anything since the freaking PS2 era

a year late.

broken at launch anyways.

weather system delayed from the delayed launch.

ps+ version still a broken promise.

this game is a blackeye for playstation when it should have been a crowning jewel.   at the very least the management needs to be seriously reconsidered because all in all there is more bad than good even if the game a few months after launch is great.

Not at all surprising. Cutting staff is common after games are finished but even then Driveclub was delayed from its launch release by a year and still underwhelmed when it did release. I hear it's a much better game now, but you still don't need that many people to maintain that.

First BigBig gets shut, then Studio Liverpool, then Evolution trimmed. Pretty soon there won't be any Sony Computer Entertainment employees near me anymore.

Hopefully Playground Games pick them up and put them to better use.

They didnt reached break even...
