Nexus

Wait, will it be a Roomba, too? It kind of looks like that. If it cleans my house AND plays games, I'd buy ten of them.

Maybe the X is for Xersion. You know, playing into the whole QOL/health thing?

Xii, lol. Like "Zee?" That'd be a great setup for TV commercials. "Come and Xii what all the fuss is about!" :P

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

A Sony smartphone and Nintendo console hybrid, the Nintendo Xperia. (jk, a little reference to the thread I just made).

Think it stands for "New Experience"

They also said it would be..

Not becourse of the name.. but it has to be some kind of VR..

Think Wii-R will be the final name.. or atleast that was the plan.. but i think they stick to it.. nobody will say: "is this a new consol" :)

And I also think it could be an addon for Wii-U.. they only said "platform".. and WiiU are in all way prepered to send the picture "lagless" to an external screen.. controlled with motion/gyro

I'll also go with the Nintendo Cross name, or atleast it being what the codename is suppose to be referring, to the cross between their home console and handheld. It's quite fitting, specially since it will most surely be coming out in 2017, which should be the replacement year for both 3DS and Wii U, since 3DS would be aproaching it's 7th year by Holiday 2017, and Wii U should had just become 5 years old, perfect time for the successors.

COMG guide to points: 1 point = Raging. 2 points = Beasting. 3 points = Tearing it up. 4 points = Berzerk. 7 points = Rampage. 12 points = Burst. 15 points = god mode. 20+ points = DIVIDING BY ZERO!!! 40+ points = Youkai (originally Pokemon).

-1 = Negabeasting. -5= NegaRampage. -10 = NegaBurst

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the possibility that it's meant to be a shorthand expression.

NX -> Annex

An annex is an extension on a building. If Nintendo intend the NX to sit alongside the Wii U and 3DS (and I suspect they do, kind of like how the DS was initially intended to sit alongside the GBA and GC), then it makes perfect sense - it's not a replacement of a current system, it's a new system to act kind of like the "third pillar".

We know it's "a dedicated game system utilising a brand-new concept". This makes me think that it is, indeed, intended as an "annex" to the current gaming scene. I'd be tempted to suggest that it would be a VR system... but I don't think they'd call that a "brand-new concept". If we assume that it's in the same category as the DS's touchscreen or the Wii's motion controls, then we'd be expecting something that changes "how we play". But I can't really think of what it could be, right now.

One other possibility is that it could be a kind of reference to Star Trek, with "NX Project" - http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/NX_Project

In that case, I'd suggest that it was more along the lines of the SNES -> N64 shift, that took us from 2D to 3D. Breaking some sort of "limit".

It would be pretty cool and fascinating if the "tech acquisition" Nintendo made was Euclideon's engine, and "Project NX" was a new system designed around that engine. But it's probably not that.

Won't stand for anything, any more than "Project Reality" stood for N64, or "Revolution" stood for Wii. Codenames mean nothing.

Nintendo Xii gave me a good laugh. If it's pronounced like the letter Z, it would actually be a better sounding name than Wii, lol.

Except the Wii was a revolution.

Project Reality obviously refers to the first 3D games.

N = Nintendo
X = Cross

I really like the name "Nintendo NX", if it gets changed I think the only name I'd be super happy with would be Nintendo Nexus which could also go in it.
