Interesting, had Sony not sold their share we might've seen seen a Nintendo/Sony alliance lol.

I don't think Nintendo and Sony really even view themselves as direct competitors anymore.

Since there likely isn't going to be a successor to Vita, that's out. Can't see Sony pursuing dedicated handheld gaming after that flop, heck even Nintendo has swallowed their pride and acknowledged smartphones now.

Wii U isn't even trying to compete with the PS4.

They're just two ships quietly passing in the night.

Sigh, wii u will always be competing with ps4. they're both dedicated gaming machines.

Walk into any EB or any retailer and try to talk a PS4 buyer out of buying one in favor of a Wii U. You will get laughed out of the store.

They're competiors about as much as a movie like Cinderella is in direct competetion with the next Fast & Furious movie.

The days of SNES vs. Genesis or Playstation vs. N64/GameCube ... those days are long since over now. Sony's game division head is even openly stating he's rooting for Nintendo to do well. MS' XBox twitter ran a poll during last E3 asking people what their favorite Zelda game is. LOL, the times they have changed.

Nintendo going mobile is like the fall of the Berlin Wall. The end of the Cold War is not far off now.

You would think so yet apparently Angry Birds is like the no.1 sellng third party game on the 3DS in the West.

Puzzles Vs. Dragons sold 1+ million copies on the 3DS in Japan.

And Minecraft sells like gangbusters on both mobile and home console/PC.

Not saying you're wrong, but there are also examples to the contrary (even though personally I think paying $30 to play Angry Birds on the 3DS is stupid).

Stranger things have happened. I think Nintendo is in a really difficult position. They know handheld gaming devices will be obselete eventually so the move to mobile was essential one day. I personally did not expect it this soon though, I thought they would have waited until after the next Nintendo handheld at the very least to move to mobile. Also Sony and Microsoft will most likely get into streaming consoles in the 9th generation(assuming MS does now ditch consoles altogether) and this will give them more of an edge because they can offer the 'console' for cheaper due to the actual hardware more minimal due to most of the visuals being streamed rather than processed by a local GPU etc. Sony is already delving into this with PS Now.

... an edge at making crappy laggy artefact-filled games... no thx, I don't like to play my games with delay on Youtube!!!

As harsh it sounds its true.

The same way Sony, Microsoft & Apple are 3rd party... Nintendo is expanding its business.

As usual, Nintendo is lagging several years behind Sony and Microsoft on this front.

Soon they'll all be 3rd party to mobile and/or PC and we will all be happy. Finally we can stop the console wars and get some good old fashioned Intel vs AMD vs Nvidia shit going :)

& then you woke up :O

Once you tasted the sweet sweet nectar of 3rd party publishing...

But he could be right. We still don't know.

Today is a great day for Nintendo from the bussiness standpoint, or could be. As someone else mentioned, they are expanding. Dedicated gaming devices, software, QoL, game shows (rumored Zelda Netflix) and now mobiles. It is good news for the company to be growing rather than shrinking and being in red every fiscal year.

up 15% now.

The funny thing is, people aren't seeing the dedicated gaming devices are gonna go into eventual decline overall, with the rise of streaming gaming devices and easier PC gaming devices. Nintendo I think wouldn't adapt as fast to streaming gaming devices as they should. Given we are still 5-6 years away from those devices being passed the introduction phase, but still.

Dedicated handheld gaming devices. Nintendo has no choice but to go mobile. They have no presence in the console market and dedicated handheld gaming devices are dying so, of course, they would go mobile. In time, people will be playing Zelda games with touch controls.

When I hear NX I think: https://www.google.hr/search?q=siemens+nx
