It's almost a staple at this point to lower a games score because the reviewer can't comprehend proper nouns.

Seriously terms like l'Cie and fal'cie aren't that hard to understand.

Wait are they genuine complaints of a reviewer?? O_O

Several reviews complaining about not understanding the story due to proper nouns.

If I'm not mistaken, they were explained in the datalog almost at the beginning of the game in FFXIII. Maybe they're not explained in Type-0? They're not too hard to understand anyway.

Called it!!

The only thing I was unsure on was the story. Gameplay wise this was never going to be an experience that would hold up extremely well on console. Looks like fun but quite shallow and repetitive.

Anyways, I won't get this game unless its ported to PSVita. Crisis core HD will be welcome too :)

The gameplay is the highlight of the game and most reviews praise it.

Great reviews!

I still play on my dreamcast so I'm used to not so good graphics and bad camera, just in my alley as long as the story/gameplay are good.

Oh oh....

When you pop in Type-0, one of the first things you'll see is a cut-scene with the following chunk of narration:

And so the Milites Empire, home to the White Peristylium, invaded the neighboring Dominion of Rubrum. As soon as the declaration of war was made, the Militesi main fleet swarmed into all corners of Rubrum. 2

Again, this is one of the first things you see. It goes on:

At the same time, a separate fleet was charged with a sneak attack on the Vermillion Peristylium. A l'Cie accompanied this task force. Using a l'Cie to invade a sovereign state was a direct violation of the Pax Codex, a treaty created by all four Crystal-States of Orience. The besieged peristyilum attempted to repel Milites's magitek armors… 3

...you know what, you get the idea. Final Fantasy Type-0 isn't afraid to be incomprehensible, spitting out proper nouns like it's trying out for Worst Tolkien Impersonation at the bookstore. But unlike, say, the old spinoff Final Fantasy Tactics—which is similar to this game in a lot of ways—Type-0 doesn't have strong enough heroes and villains to convince you that this is a world worth investing in. It's gritty, sure, but it doesn't have a whole lot of heart

From Kotaku but they are mostly  positive about the other elements http://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-type-0-hd-the-kotaku-review-1691651331

That's not so hard to understand.

And so the Milites Empire. home to the white peristylium(A school that holds a crystal. The colors are the distinction between the schools) invaded a dominion of a country which caused a war."

So this white school(lol) also attacked this other school(vermillion) and used an illegal way in doing so. The Vermillion school defended back. This vermillion school is your school, where class zero resides.

Jason(from Kotaku) just couldn't keep up with the terms.

The game is good. Great gameplay and TONS of things to do and see. Battling alone is fun enough for you to sink hours upon hours in. Only complaints I have:

the camera(and the super motion blur) and how they made everyone way too fast(compared to the psp version).

The English VO is below average.

Very inconsistent remastering. There are some environments that look really good and then you go to another are of the same environment that looks really bad. Only select enemies have their models remade for this HD version, same with the characters and NPCS: all 14 class zero characters have CGI Movie quality models while other major NPC retain their PSP models, a few NPCs get new faces, hands, shoulder pads and cape but others don't get any improvements.

Read the reviews. There could be a big difference between two "bads" that scores can not explain.

It is widely accepted that the gameplay is solid. The main criticism is that the game is meant for a portable console in its design choices. And that is 100% true. This is not about the quality of the game, but about the suitability of it on a home console.

If they'd made this for the Vita we'd likely be seeing moderately better reviews. It still wouldn't be an 'amazing' game, but its design choices (compromises, really) would be much more easily forgiven on a handheld than a home console.

I do think it should have released at $40 though. It doesn't make much sense that a re-skinned PSP title is going for the same price FF15 will (arguable their more ambitious project ever).

True. Profitability is a big factor here. They are selling XV demo as well. I actually noticed that most people are interested in XV demo more that the game. XV being ambitious means it is expensive to develop (duh). Judging from amazon us, they gonna get a lot of money from that package. Smart business decision.

OP needs updated

Should have been a $40 game.It is a game built for the psp and it shows both graphicaly and how the game is structured.

60$ is a fair value, it has a ff15 demo worth 3h of gameplay.

Huh, I wonder how hard would've been to fix the camera, especially when we're seeing that FFXV has been suffering from the same problem ever since Tabata took the director's seat, maybe he has an wonky camera fetish? Idk.

I'm now filled with determination.

Whether or not you can translate that into something comprehensible, it is still bad writing. People tend to just filter out jargon, because it just doesn't mean anything. You really need to go the extra mile to make that stuff work, and judging by those snippets, this game doesn't do much of anything to make that mess of jargon mean anything. I know that if I opened a book and saw that, I would instantly close the book and walk away because that is just bad writing. I think it deserves to be pointed out, because I would assume that the majority of people hearing that segment would get virtually nothing out of it.
